Time to hit the Track.

First race day wrapped up. Unfortunately I went out in the first round with a .005 red light. On top of that I spun bad and ended up with a 1.55 60'.

The weekend went pretty well although I did deal with traction issues.

The bad - not too much, traction issues which could be the year old tires and I went out in the first round.. My opponent cut a .004 light anyways.

The good. I set a new personal best today and cut the best light in Pro at .004. The Plymouth went 10.21 @ 132.18 and 6.520 @ 106.83.

The new tires and light weight rims will be going on for next race day. 30 lbs lighter and new sticky Hoosiers should be a good help.

Any video of the spinning launch?

I do. I was doing a lot of shock setting changes and on this run my rear shocks were set at 12C. And 14R. I launched at 4200.
I can't imagine the 60' times you lay down.

Excellent outing. How much does the car weigh now ?
--
Mike, I'll be doing a weigh in before next time out. Our track no longer has a weigh scale. I need to hit the highway scales.

What do you have your 2-step set at Michael? Whatever it is, it doesn’t sound like you’re on it?? I’m sure that with tire pressure, and suspension adjustments, you can get it to stick. But I’m also curious about your leave RPM.

Edit: I see now you said your launch RPM is at 4200.

Looks to me like the rebound is to loose at both ends. Front comes up immediately and tops out. Rear extends to quick, bounces , spins.
We try to move forward before the front tire ever comes off the ground. Watch the video from mine last week and you'll see.

I located your video and wow. Does your car work! There's no rear end rise at all on your car and the launch is just like one nice smooth sweep. Your vid shows me what I've got to correct on mine.
Greatly appreciated Doug, thanks!!

Yes I was going to say that too. You beat me to it.

Hey Wooks! That car of mine, if it was an apple cart there wouldn't be an apple within 20 feet, the way it was bucking around.. Definitely a lot more rebound needs to be put in on both ends. I noticed on Doug's video that he has limited his front end travel as well.
Your car looked and worked well bud. See how I dodged you on the weekend, you ended up getting the other 64 to pick on.

I have not limited travel in the front, just slowed it down. All the stock snubbers are still there. A Cal Track car will rise more in the rear. The trick is to control the speed of the rise with shock rebound. Mine rebound is still to loose in the front. Just didn't want to make a change going rounds.

Looks like I may have to add a bit of PSI in my drag radials. Almost appears the Tire is wrapping up a bit. I was at 17. May have to go up a pound or 2. I worry with the way they prep at SIR I may start spinning if I go up more. That little 440 is giving me a 60 in the 1.50-53 range. Wish I had not broke out by 1/1000th in the final 8. I probably would have made the final as the guy I gave the win to ended up winning. Oh well. 2 weeks we get to try again!

Time to head on back up to the track for the weekend. Supposed to be crazy hot on Saturday and 40% change of rain on Sunday. Changes for this weekend are new rear tires, valves set and some shock adjustments. Hoping to set another personal best.

Got the Super Tricks on up front. Still on the look out for rears. Interested in buying some 10's or 12 Super Tricks for the rear.

The change in rims took 30 lbs off.

And I got the car on the scales today too. Less driver with 5 gallons of fuel, 3235 lbs. And with me in the seat, 3435 lbs. Stay tuned!

Looks great Malex, now you really need the rears. We had planned to "hit the Track" this weekend but it is raining now and supposed to rain both days. Oh yea!

Thanks Bob! I hope your weather changes for the good.
It’s 5AM and foggier than hell out at the moment but a nice day ahead for me. Tomorrow has changed to 80% chance of rain by noon but that’s racing.
And yes for sure I need the matching rears. In 10’s I can even go from 3.5 to 5” back spacing. A set will come.

The day was not so good today at the track. I got 2 test passes in, both passes spinning badly.
Buddy Wookie was watching the 2nd pass and said the rear was unloading badly, bouncing and spinning. Wooks and I stiffened up the rear some more and on the third pass the rear ujoint and yoke broke. Car did a little shake and that was it. Damn, so that was it for me. Wookie on the other hand won the day!

Got some work to do to be ready in 2 weeks, need to buy a good yoke for a dana and good u joints. Anyone have some part numbers and advise, chime in.

Got to check the transmission sprag too I'm told. So the trany has to come out.

My first pass, ridiculous spinning and bouncing. Check out that 60'

Broken u joint. These u joints were with the car when purchased, not sure of the quality, will be replacing with the GOOD ones, including straps. Parts recommendations? The end of the driveshaft is a little gouged up from the yoke, looks worse in the picture. Should be ok.
IMG_2812.JPG

The yoke snapped as well. Will be putting a GOOD one on, what's best?
IMG_2813.JPG

Driveshaft has some scratches from the seat belt bolts in the tunnel, other than the scratches, it looks fine, will get it spun and checked.

A billet yoke would be a good choice and for sure check the trans. Strange how the pinion yoke came apart and sorry for your misfortune. Malex, did you also just change shocks? :(
Hopefully we get some dry weather so next weekend might be possible..
Bob :moparsmiley:

Get a quality branded chromoly/billet yoke , it will use "U" bolts NOT straps
With that it will be a 1350 universal , do not get a greaseable universal you want a solid
Tailshaft yoke looks toast
Good luck with the transmission

Tex

Strange for everything, I got their chromoly yoke. Really nice piece.

Thanks 67, that's exactly what I'm going with. I also checked the strange non greasable U joints, I read that they are actually Spicer joints. Not sure about that.
