Just watched a 1962 film "Stark Fear" where all the cars were trashy looking.

I used to have a 54 Corvette. Yarded the 235 out and put in a 389 from a goat.

I like most from the 50s 60s early 70s not the land yachts though. The 50s set the stage for the cool 60s cars.

My favorite movie full of old cars is "it's a mad mad .mad world" (I know, not enough mad's). The movie is overrun with 62 dodges and plymouths, and an imperial, and buckets of other neet cars and trucks.

Most of the cars of today are kind of trashy looking....so many from all the different makes look too much alike. Back then you could tell everything apart from each other. I remember my dad and an uncle laughing about the ugly 59 Chevy Impala. Heck I kind of liked it and still do.

mad mad mad mad world has a lot of 63's too.

I love what I call the Awkward Period (early 60's) when they were transitioning from the max styling of the 50's to boxy sedans of the 60's, especially the 1960 and 1961 models across all manufacturers. It's really rare to see these cars as most people consider them non-desirable and they just did not get saved. Wish I had room and time for more of them.......my 60 Plymouth:

62 was an odd year for MoPar
some pretty interesting cars/designs

I personally like the 57-60 eras a little better
like that 59 Desoto above ^^^
Hemi baby

a few cars from 62 were cool & a few Brand X cars

the 1st years of Max Wedge 413cid
Plymouth Super Stock or Dodge Ramcharger cars

I was only 3 in 1962, I don't remember much if any about that period

my step dad Bob had a 62 Phoenix with a Long Ram set up
in about 1966-67-ish
I remember him dumping something down the carbs &
revving it & blowing out a crap-load of carbon buildup,
up on a hillside in Fiddletown Ca.
(that sight, really stuck in my head)
it was purchased from/owned by an elderly couple, before he got it,
I'd think never went over 50mph
it was pink-ish/white 2 tone too, inside & out, not my favorite color

yeah " It's a Mad mad mad mad world" was a cool car flick,
long movie too

Now I have to go back and watch it again, because i don't remember a single 63 anything in it.
Edit: no offense Budnicks, but that 59 above was a wedge, no hemis after 58, till gen 2 in 64. I agree with you though, love the fin cars. Saw a 57 adventurer convertible go for nearly a quarter million bucks at auction, a while ago.

Based on the title of this thread, I would have guessed you were much younger and that you were describing the 30 year period between the mid 70's up to the mid 2000's rather than any time during the 1955-1972 era considered by many to be the high point of American auto styling.

I said  57-60, covering both :carrot:wedges & Hemi's
I guess I should have made it crystal clear :poke:

Late 50's - early 60's was a damn ugly car period.
IMO 1968-69 is the best
a select few 63-64-65-66-67's too (especially brand X)
depending on what brand...

select few cars after 71, unless it's a PU/Truck
until like 1994, then 1999, then 2008

I do like a few cars from quite a few different eras
30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, a select few after 1971, for collector cars
all my favorite are 1968's, especially in MoPar's

I'm an equal opportunity gearhead

Don't know that I agree, I grew up in the late 70's into the 80's... Those were ugly! Our family transportation consisted of K cars, Fifth Avenues and Dodge vans. Nicest cars in my childhood were probably Buick Gran Nationals, Monte Carlos and Fox body Mustangs if that says anything.
