LS Swapped 69 Charger

Thanks! The plan for right now is the usual hotchkis upgrades and better wheels/tires until I get a big enough space to tear it all apart and build something new. I’m thinking along the lines of C5 corvette based suspension but still pretty undecided

There are a couple of companies that offer brackets that allow you to weld/Bolt in the the C5/C6 Cradle in the front and rear. I have been researching this for a little while for my 68 Charger.I am considering a Viper Chassis now but track width is about 4 inches wider. Progressive Automotive sells the the weld in frame stubs for front and rear. Dobbertin Permormance sells bolt in with the option of narrowing the rear cradle. He also sells a adapter for the transaxle to run a transmission behind the engine instead of the torque tube that the corvette uses. Although he offers the ability to narrow the rear at the moment the front is standard width. The track width is wider that the charger so it creates a problem. Also GZ Motorsports sells a air pump for the LS engine can be mounted pretty easy. That is if you continue to have problems with crankcase pressure. I would assume that you are only running about 12 Pounds of boost. 600 hp is a safe max on stock internal ls engines before they fly apart. Next time 2j swap the charger LOL. People will really get pissed.
Thanks,Joe

been awhile, any updates Pritchert403

Havent done too much lately, I’ve been busy moving houses. Just put a new VS racing 78/75 on and did some tuning. This thing really moves now lol. And I took it out today to play in the snow

Nice stance. Did you have to adjust the front torsion bars for a weight difference?

X2 on the stance, looks awesome:thumbsup:. Play time is the best motivator, enjoy.

cool how is the handling and steering so far any dialing and adjustments involved

Nope didn’t adjust them. It was basically riding on the bump stops with the 440, and it just happened to be at the perfect height after the swap lol

I haven’t done anything with suspension yet but even now without sway bars or any other upgrades on it’s amazingly stable and flat in corners. The borgeson box is great, fast ratio and super tight

Great car and great engine choice! I have an ls in my 69 camaro and it’s a dream to work on !

Broke the driveshaft a couple days ago and put a massive dent in the floor. Oh well, I guess it just gives me an excuse to tear the car down and start doing racecar stuff lol

Well that sucks! tends to happen when you start building boost and have a little too much traction...;)

Hey Pritchert, you’re obviously wiser than your years

Hope “race car stuff” means big suspension, brake, tire/wheel upgrades to handle that power

maybe a cage and restraints too

Sweet build you have here

what ratio is 1st in that trans?

727s are 2.45 I think

just wondering if the trans is multiplying torque a lot more than stock...

Thank you!
Yes it does! And a lot more, I have so many ideas for this car its crazy lol.
The first gear is 3.06 I believe

Someone is having fun:thumbsup:.

Yes, a driveshaft loop is about do for installation lol. I broke one at the transmission once, it stuck in the road and catapulted the whole *** end up in the air.. scary!

I see the original post was on Halloween? I checked to see if it was on April 1. With some fancy photoshop? LS in a '69 Charger. That's a good one!

First update in over a year and a half! The charger turned into a shelf for quite a while unfortunately, after I melted some holes in a couple pistons lol. I finally got back on it around a month ago and built a new gen 4 aluminum block 5.3 for it. Just a pretty basic engine with flat top pistons, BTR cam, 706 heads, ls7 lifters, ARP head bolts, etc. It's around 10.3:1 compression which is higher than I would like for a turbo motor, but I'm thinking it'll be fine on E85. It'll take 100 pounds off the nose and hopefully make in the neighborhood of 850whp. While waiting on parts I started stripping all the paint off the car and putting it in some epoxy primer and I unfortunately found some rust in the top of one of the fenders. So I got that all cut out and have it almost fixed now. I also started welding up some of the unnecessary holes in the doors and quarter panels. Trim has always made the car feel "cheap" to me, so I plan on getting rid of ALL stainless/chrome trim on the car. That's all I've got for now!
