What's up with fastfood prices?

There's been a sign up looking for help at my local AZ McDonald's for weeks (months?). Starting pay is $14, according to the sign.

Maybe that's why a chocolate shake is five freaking dollars!?!
And even at that wage they are having trouble hiring good help.

Me and my son hit a drive through in Cali at this fine establishment (carl's Jr) 2-burgers 1-fries 2-drinks $35

Went into the local Denny's restaurant, for breakfast, yesterday morning, and for the two of us, it was 46 bucks, and then the tip.

The main thing I still can‘t wrap my head around is what are all these “refusing to work” people doing to survive now - and more importantly what are they going to do in the future? I’m serious how are they going to get thru life and as they age? That was a big thing with me back when I turned 18 - My dad was the “you‘re out of the house at 18” guy - and completely serious and carrier thru with it. It dawned on me then -What the heck was I going to do for a living to support myself then and throughout my life. Scared the **** out of me. I don’t get what these people are thinking, I really don’t. Anyone have a crystal ball and able tackle that one?

There’s always seemed to be those who didn’t work.
They‘d be the people a friend would nudge you at a funeral or wedding or something, point to them and whisper “that’s Sue‘s cousin, he’s 40 and still lives with his parents and never worked”!
Often said person would have some sort of mental health disorder.
Now it seems the negative stigma to being idle living with parents indefinitely is gone and able bodied slackers sit in the basement all day playing video games and their parents are happy to enable that.
Helicopter parenting and coddling of kids seems to be the rule, not too many Red Foreman type dads left!
I get Burger King coupons and every couple weeks will take break from my boring daily work from home lunch routine of a can of soup and crackers and cheese, or microwaved leftovers or whatever and drive 1/2 mile to BK for one of their char grilled horse meat burgers as they were cheap with the coupon. Earlier this year the coupon price for a whopper, small fries and a drink was $4.99. It’s 6.99 now.
2 whopper jrs and 2 small fries was 3.99, then 4.49, then 4.99, latest coupon sheet is $5.49. All this increase in a year!
Theres a family owned carry out a quick walk from my house, a classic Chicago Hot dog and fries no drink with tax is $6.65 now.
2 Chicken tacos is about the same. I go there about once a week. I’d sort of like to pull the plug on that habit, but I like supporting a small family business run by a hardworking family who toil away there 6 long days a week.
A nearby family owned pizza place I frequented closed up in October citing a “dismal economy“.

I work waaayyyy too hard for my money....... ain't no way I'm blowing it on overpriced fast food

what are all these “refusing to work” people doing to survive now

Imo, I think its that some people are "refusing to work hard". Example in the restaurant business its tough to find workers. Its hard work. In the kitchen its hot, greasy and fast pace. In the dining room you have attitude from customers to deal with. Its much easier to work anywhere else for the same kind of money or even more. With the mass exiting of retirement workers during the pandemic caused a lack of staff everywhere, which gives many more options for available workers to pick and choose. The ones that don't want to work most likely have a mental issue and we've always had them around, just not as noticeable.

And yet still, so many rely on fast food over eating and making meals at home. I just do not get it as to why at this current time, some continually continue to use those establishments over their own doing? Then I guess a "FOOL AND THEIR MONEY ARE EASILY PARTED"!!! So said the famous P.T. Barnum...cr8crshr/Bill:realcrazy::realcrazy::realcrazy::usflag::usflag::usflag:

I don't know how fast food places stay open when most grocery stores and gas stations have delis.

Ask for Senior discount.

The restaurant thing is one deal - but this is going on in nearly every business and industry - blue and white color both In the entire country. This is much deeper than you think bro…. And it’s incredibly serious. So many millions simply no longer want to work. How in Gods great creation are they all going to take care of them selves. Still boggles the mind

It's economics 101. It sounds all great to these people that they're getting raises to $15/hour until they wonder why their groceries and rent have skyrocketed and they're right back to where they started.

On top of all of that, this is what higher prices are getting us. We ate at a restaurant last Friday. This is what my silverware looked like before I opened it. Standard, right?

And this is what I found when I opened it. That's a helluva quality control system they have going. Maybe Ray Charles was rolling the silverware.
