Over the course of the winter, I pulled the motor out of the Runner to strip it down, paint the block etc. etc. etc. (except if my wife asks.. then I just paint the block). Replaced the usual.. incl. crank seals.

Finally got her wired today, and she fired right up. Ran it for a bit to tune, and noticed a small patch of oil on the shop floor. Hoisted her up and noticed it was dripping out of the flywheel/ bellhousing. Pulled the cover off, looks like it is the rear main seal..... Ugh! a kick in the pills..... suggestions/ideas on what you guys do to attempt to prevent this thing from leaking??

Thanks guys.

1). nice looking 440 + 6 pac
2). rear main seal leaks are typical of Mopar big blocks, there are loads of info repairing them. (search the forum)
3). keep the missus out of the build.

bite out of the seal is from the top half of the seal..... never felt it "catch" or give us difficulty going in.... Replaced with Felpro seal kit, extra care when installing the top half... and we are good to go!

built a 426 hemi....stock rear main leaked like a pig...(after installing motor in car)..replaced with another in car...leaked like a little pig...bought a billet rear main from mancinni...took 12 thou off it..installed while in the car....has been dry, like new since. Thanks Mancini

Please tell me that's a eagle crank, it would explain the leak, have a Eagle 4.15 stroker, the knurled grooves are cut to deep after the fact I find out there's tons of people having the same problem with eagle cranks

Molnar crank BUT it's not leaking around the crank,my opinion, it's coming around the sides of the gasket holder.between it and the block.others with eagles had the same issue...same fix
