Who has been put out of work and sent home ?

Airlines are already scaling back and transporting planes to the desert to be mothballed.

@CudaChick1968

So your customer was OK with you shipping a finished product to them knowing they were unable to pay?

...and not bothering to say anything.

Sez allot about the persons character... Or more like lack of character....

No, I don't ship anything anymore until it's paid for.

The texts were my advisement I canceled the FedEx pickup (since the work hadn't been paid for yet) and his response about needing more time to do so. Typed his invoice Feb. 22 and set the pickup for yesterday morning in hopes that was enough time. It wasn't.

Finished parts are stackin' up like cordwood. Company policy says 30 days to pay for it or it gets put up for sale; I can't bring myself to enforce it but that may change if this keeps up.

Never have liked being used as a storage facility myself. Many years ago I had a customer's Dana 60 that sat here finished for 7 months so I threw it on the truck and took it to a swap meet where low and behold, the 'previous' owner walked up just as the new owner was walking away with it. At that very point is when he decided he didn't want me to store it any longer. Sorry dude, it's not yours anymore.

Who sets their *** down in a port potty? I'm in my 60's & never once has my *** been in direct contact with a portable potty seat... Hover....
Yes - a wise idea but in a porta shitter...wearing heavy coat, safety vest, hard hat, carhartt insulated bibs, gloves...and no hook to hang anything on, the preferred hover technique while assuring you don't unload on yourself somewhere is a challenge. The big dudes in their office trailer has a nice roomy restroom...if they had to go out to use the porta's they might find a higher priority that the slugs have been bitching about with their placement of them 1000 feet from where they work. Well some complaining comparing this to their 'safety rules'...get caught without your PPE on (including walking to the porta's) it can be a 3 day layoff, next time caught can be banned from the site. Walk a 1000 feet on a cold-windy or rainy day without a coat on isn't my choice trying to stay healthy these days. Common sense can be uncommon...

I'm sorry to hear about that CudaChick. I guess that kind of thing is common. A friend of mine owns a 2 man auto repair shop. Does a lot of work on Fed x trucks and for Charter Cable. They tend to drag there feet paying and he has a lot of money involved. Unfortunate.

If they don't have money to pay now. Parts shouldn't have been sent in the first place.

what are you going to post for items that are available:rolleyes::lol: to sell

Too easy to scam benefits. Pick up phone, 2 weeks off with pay.

This morning, I got inspection stickers on three cars; 2 of the Chargers and my wife's car. Talking with the guy at the gas/inspection station, he said that Saturdays are usually like a zoo with inspection stickers, but there was no lines. He also said that they had to lay off one mechanic for lack of repair work and their gas sales were down 50%.

I stopped in at the office to take in the mail & for something different, I phoned in a lunch order at Five Guys which is located at the local mall. When I got there at noon, no one else was there other than the two employees. Nothing was cooking on the grill and the phones were not ringing. It really made me feel bad that here it was, high noon, and it was dead & it made me think that the store would be lucky if they made payroll by the end of the day. Leaving Five Guys and driving through the nearly empty parking lot Looking at the nearly vacant mall made me feeling even worse thinking about all of those who are affected by the shutdowns.

We plan to grab a cheesesteak at Jerseys here in Campbell, Ca. Do as much normal stuff as possible. Support small business. Small business makes this Country great.

Well me being a stay at home dad I've yet to be told not to work!
My wife works at aver office (biggest one in area) she is told there not closing down. Hey are just going to cars and getting pets doing whatever then the people pay over the phone from there car! They have been swamped

I won't be sent home unless I get quarantined. Public safety - essential employee.
I feel for all of those whose income is affected and/or up in the air with uncertainty. Even if there are bailouts coming, I'm afraid that some businesses may not be able to survive this and come back. It feels like some kind of movie we're watching, yet we're all living it. Hard to believe it's really happening.
I drove my daughter home to her place in the Chicago Loop a few nights ago. That was the lightest traffic I've ever seen going in there that night and back out the next morning.

I do air duct & dryer vent cleaning. I had hoped, with everyones mind on health, and sitting at home, i'd be swamped. Hec, even around the holidays, dryer vents still clog up. I haven't had one call in days.
Time to do some creative advertising.

Still working here, but just me and the cats unless Billy comes out to work on one of his projects.

Waiting on several slow-pays at the moment and trying to be patient and understanding of their plight. Thankfully fairly stocked up on essentials right now and hoping it lasts until payments come in.

Considering past outbreaks, I'll say this situation is either REALLY scaring a lot of people ... or something really big is going on and the powers that be don't want innocents in the way. The prevention methods certainly seem overblown in light of actual statistics.
I think I've gotten over ten emails from different auto parts and resto shops about what they are doing i response to the virus. It's different depending what state they reside in. Looks like states rights is in effect, for now.

Say hello to Felix for me. :^)

What I find strange is that at first, the media calls it a total " Shelter in place" order followed by a long list of exceptions.
I work construction which somehow is considered essential.
Why ? I am happy to keep earning but why is this essential? I'm building a new school, not a Hospital or a FEMA disaster relief building.
Wrecking yards and auto parts stores are open too. Again, NOT complaining but how does the availability to get a fender for a 2002 Civic help save or protect the lives of people?
So, since my life seems to be limited to work and car projects along with my time online here.....I am really not inconvenienced that much by this.

I thought that I was going to be quarantined soon. Today, Sacramento and Placer county were both ordered to comply with the "Shelter in Place" restrictions.
On the job, each day was looking like it could be the last one. Word came down that some influential people in the construction industry twisted some arms and as a result, ALL construction workers are exempt from the restrictions.
California infrastructure and other construction projects have been deemed Essential in the same way that grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants have been.
I thought I'd be sent home for 2-3 weeks but apparently, the big-wigs feel that construction needs to stay running.
I'm working on a school project that is scheduled to open in the fall. We are supposed to be done and clear out by the end of May.
I've been in contact with a few blue collar buddies, a few that work in the SF bay area. They are all working. Another works in Sacramento, he is sitting at home. A friend that does maintenance at a High School in Auburn is only working 2 hours a day, 3 days a week. Huh ?
How is it looking for you ?

Same here, we have several school projects they are considered "Public Works" projects and are exempt. We do have other projects at UC Berkeley that are still on but restricted. Gentech projects are all on, however several of our other commercial projects are down and off until 4/7 for now several guys at home on unemployment. All of our global teams work is suspended for now, I even had a project in Tahoe City stopped.

Exactly my questions Kern...the huge site I'm on is a mfg plant for nothing critical far as I know and a long way off yet to be up and running. There's people working there from all over the country and beyond. My better half has been lecturing me about stopping work there because I'm in the geezer category and she takes care of her 92 year old mother who lives just a few hundred yards from us. She's concerned of course, that if I get snagged I bring it home to her and then she to her mother. I came out of semi-retire mode to help a friend cover when he can't be there so I'm not in any need to work; but da cash is nice too as I watch my 401k disintegrate. On another note, my nephew is a cop and his girlfriend, also works at the PD and she came down with a fever, etc. She was told to self Q...and also my nephew...nope no testing to see if it's covid, more likely the flu; but no testing and they are in self-Q 14 days no worky.

Just found out unless someone needs essential home repairs as of Tuesday we are grounded. Got a job to finish tomorrow then it will be working at home and going out for things essential to life.

I've been self quarantined for the last 12 days, had a cold, but didn't want to expose my employees just in case I had corona ( not sick enough to get tested, but sick enough to be told to self q). My business, a hardware store, was deemed essential so I can stay open. My employees were making noise about having to work and being exposed, even though they have masks, gloves and we're disinfecting surfaces. I gave them all a choice. If they decide they don't want to work, I would have to close down. But our company health plan would be cancelled because it is based on payroll and there were no orders from the state to the insurance companies that they can't cancel health plans of companies that shut down. I haven't heard anyone discussing this. Anyhow, my guys all said they would keep working, so I'm still in business for now. I did cut back on hours I'm open since biz is down about 30%. But, people still need to fix their plumbing, electric, etc, so I guess we are essential. My painting contractor customers are allowed to keep working too. I'm not sure why they are essential, but I'm not complaining as I do big numbers with them. So, unless my guys get sick and they have to self q ( only a matter of time), I'm still in business.
