Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

I have no interest in Tea. None. Sweet, sour, none of it.
Grits?
I'd try a grit. Almost anything can be made tolerable with sugar, salt or salsa!

Not going to work, you are who you are and that's not a bad thing. Just for the record, I don't like grits either.

And you guys probably don't eat ham hock, greens, lady finger peas, fried eggplant,:thumbsup:sauteed squash (Squash is a yellow squash by the way) hoe cakes, much less mud bugs!!!!!

Mustard and collard, prefer mustard! okra, since it is south Texas I will throw in boudin, a monthly trip to Snows BBQ to see Ms. Tootsie! Pecos cantaloupe, Noonday's, Parker county peaches, chow chow relish, green tomato piccalilli, and something my grandmother called Dutch dish ( chopped onions, tomato's, bell pepper and cucumber salt pepper and vinegar allowed to set for a couple of days) my grand mother was taught to cook by a German ranchers wife after she took over the care of her father and brothers when her mom passed. They moved to this ranch where my great grand father worked as a cow hand and part of the pay was room and board for the family. My grandmother was the owners wife's helper and was taught how to cook, sew and keep a clean house. She worked in the ranch kitchen from 4:30 am until 7:30am when she left for school. Back to the ranch by 11:45 to help prepare lunch and do the washing ( since they were washing for all the ranch employees they washed every other day instead on once a week) and house cleaning. School work was in the evenings by coal oil light and bed was at 9:00. She made most of my sisters clothes through their high school years. Really strange thing about that ranch, it was large and had stone and brick houses and barns so a very prosperous concern for that time. One day they loaded up all their things, paid off the help and disappeared. They paid the taxes in advance for 20 years and there was no lien on the property. It sat un occupied for 30 plus years and they never returned.

Ok ok, if it makes you happy....I've eaten them before.
There, I said it.
TONS of sugar and butter and I can eat them in a pinch - I don't "hate" them,
but if it's a choice between grits and just about ANY other side dish, they gonna lose. :)
Here’s how I eat my grits. 1 raw egg, butter, salt and pepper. Mix it all together in the bowl and enjoy.

Interesting story. Back when people that worked really knew what work was! My wife is from German grandparents that raised her. There is some really good German food.Yes you mentioned some really good food.
Yes I forgot fried okra as I failed to plant nay this year. Anyone close by need any tomatoes, they are running out our ears! She cans (lots of) homemade salsa, good for chili, spagetti sauce, etc.
That Dutch salad is good in this hot weather except I hate cucumber!

I could say yes to all, but what are mud bugs?

Our family summer dinner was several pounds of fried perch wilted lettuce fried ocra, eggplant followed home made ice cream. There was a lot of southern influence in my mother's cooking. But no grits.

Did the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya? :)
No sir. The barometric pressure dropped 2 inches when I left that place so fast.

I might go back for a visit if they do a reenactment of April 2, 1865.

Ham hocks go in the soup beans for flavor.
I like about any kind of corn cake, especially johnnycake and pan fried cake (goes with salmon cakes!).
You get smaller than snow crab and lobster, I ain't got the patience to fool with crustaceans.
No - hard pass on collards, broccoli, spinach, green beans, eggplant, squash, all that jazz, but that's just me.
Around these parts, all of those are chowed down upon - with a big glass of ice tea, of course.

Thanks. I'll pass on everything mentioned above.
