Was the luggage rack a 1970 only option?

My 1969 Charger SE has the grommet holes in the trunk lid that I think lines up with the factory rack. Dealer installed?

My friend had a 71 340 Cuda that had a factory luggage rack on it too.

No offense to anyone that has one but... I’d lose it. :D

No offense taken, I had one on my 73, 340 Rallye. I quite liked the look of it. Several positive comments at local shows. Sure, there were just as many who didn't care for them.
It was a thing then, most of the manufacturers offered them, so there must have been something to the craze.

Some people smoked funny stuff at the time. Like, hey man, let's go camping, we can put the tent on the luggage rack on my vette....

I’m strange.

I don’t care for vinyl tops either. :)

I think if my Charger had one, I'd dig it.

I wouldn't add one...but if it were original, it'd stay. Just like the color palette...it kinda screams "1970s".

My Satellite Custom wagon was also a rack-delete car, though, and I do like the smooth top on it...along with the factory "wind deflector" (spoiler) at the rear that really does keep the back window clean!

I had a loaded 70 Charger R/T plum crazy purple car that came from the factory with a go wing, and the original owner of the car traded trunklids with a guy for one with a luggage rack!

The 70s and 80s were the decades of big options. To the point of way over doing it. Cultivating into one of my favorite movie car? The Family Vista!

Info taken from the original 1969 factory brochure showing available options for all models.

My 70 Challenger has one.
Its a 14in wheel car so it has a full size spare.
With that little truck the luggage rack comes in handy for getting the beer home.
