So my 1969 has a wiper motor that looks pretty sad but works fine mechanically. I'd love to take it apart, sand it down and paint it to look better but I wonder if it's worth the trouble or if I should just send it away and let the pros go at it.

My car is not number matching and will be modified beyond the limit where you feel that you NEED to have the original motor - I'd be fine with a replacement too.

What say you Mopar pros? Repaint yourself? Send it away? Buy a new one? Thanks

I'd say depends on level of skill and attention to detail and if it's a 2 speed or 3 speed. 2 speed i'd give doing it myself a shot.

What one do you have? Kim at passion4Mopar is fantastic to deal with and very knowledgeable

The 68 could have a couple diff brands of 3 speed motors or the 2 speed which is painted and very common

also you put 68 in the title and 69 in the body.

If 68 3 speed is it gold anodized or black and pewter?

If 69 I think those are all the anodized ones if it's a 3 speed

It's a 1969 - but it don't allow me to edit the topic of the thread. :)

It's a 2 speed and looks like this

It's nothing mechanically wrong with it but it looks terrible ;) I guess I need to take it apart - sand it - prime it and then spray it while trying not to open anything up which I can't put back together? ;)

It says 69 now that you've cleared that up.

Good luck with the resto :)

It's a two speed. We drill the rivets out to get the cases apart and that gives you access to the internals of the motor. Be careful with your conical grommets, no one I'm aware of reproduces those and they have a tendency to get a little crunchy with age and you can split them pretty easily. If that happens it's not the end of the world, just use three speed grommets and cut your inserts/crush sleeves to fit their height. Black Satin and some elbow grease and the motor will look MUCH better on the firewall. If you need anything, hit me up I'm always willing to help someone who's trying to help themselves :icon_winkle:
