Since this is my first post here, I figured what better way to introduce myself than to show everyone what my car is all about? Here is a little background on the car:

The car was sold brand new from Bacon Sales in Two Harbors, MN to my mom's friend's uncle. The car was originally GF7 but I've been told that the original owner had it painted black very shortly after buying the car. After owning the car for a few years, my dad's best friend in high school bought it from him. My dad has told me a few stories about how he and his friend would...well...drive it like it was meant to be driven. After that, it passed through the hands of a couple other people that my parents know fairly well before I ended up with it. I bought the car from the previous owner when I was 15. It was actually my first car! Needless to say, I was a bit excited.

The car is a GF7 on black interior, numbers matching 340, A833, 8 3/4 open diff 3.23 with 54,*** original miles. Right now, the only things on the car that aren't original are the black paint, the original Magnum road wheels (I do have a couple of them), and some miscellaneous stuff I've replaced under the hood (hoses, water pump, etc.). The car does run (actually fairly well) and moves under it's own power, but I need to do some brake, fuel system, and suspension work before I can hit the road with it. The floors and trunk are all solid, but the car does need fenders, inner fenders, quarters, and trunk extensions from stuff building up and sitting in them.

I just recently got done pulling the 340 and replacing all the freeze plugs, timing set, water pump, radiator and heater hoses, valve seals, valve cover gaskets, clutch disc, and some other items I'm probably not remembering at the moment. While I had it out, I pressure washed the engine bay and hit all the accessories with a quick coat of aerosol satin black for now. I have a fuel tank, hard fuel lines, brake lines, brakes, and a few other miscellaneous items that need attention before it's at least drivable. The car hasn't been driven since 1985, but I'm doing just enough this spring to be able to drive it for a summer or two before I completely disassemble it and render it inoperable for a few years to complete the full resto.

Anyway, on with a few pics:

I will try to keep this thread up to date with all future progress. Thanks for reading!

Welcome. And it's a rallye charger, cool. I see it has a dent in the bumper. Is there a story for that one?

looks good.....love the doors for sure.

Nice looking Charger, especially being from the arrowhead. Always stop by the butcher shop there in two harbors when passing through. Awesome smoked salmon. Good luck on your resto. Have fun with her!

it sure does. I have some used 340 magnum badges on my spare hood if remember correctly.

Welcome, it's always nice to see another '72 340 Rallye. Your lucky to have the complete history on your car. So far all I know about mine is that it was purchased by a Woman in Malone, NY and spent some time in Buffalo.

I believe the previous owner told me he was using a backhoe or bulldozer to push the car around at some point (wtf!) and dented the bumper. I actually have a perfect, freshly rechromed one hanging in the garage.

Is it Lou's Fish place that you stop by? In all honesty, I don't believe I've ever been in that place, and I live about 4 blocks from it.

Nice Rallye man. You should check:https://www.facebook.com/1972DodgeChargerRalley

yeah the email address got screwed up but wont let me fix it. But trying to put together a good collection of 72 only charger rallye information. sorry for the hyjack.
:)
Page liked!

Am I blind or does the hood say "440 MAGNUM"?
It does actually. According to the original owner, it actually came with the wrong hood emblems and the wrong decal on the air cleaner. I wish it was actually a 440 car, but oh well.

Yeah, I'm definitely lucky to know as much about it as I do. Not only do I have the broadcast sheet and everything, I have contact info for the original owner so there is really nothing that's going to be a mystery to me when I restore the car.

welcome! great story. love the car and have fun with it!

Love the car, great that you know all the history behind it.

Sounds like a great car, knowing about it as you do is a plus, I like your plan of having some real fun in it and then a restore, good luck with it, these new Chargers are a sleek bodied car!

Interesting. I never heard of a mistake that glaring.....does the engine have the partial VIN to match the car? Does the fender tag decode to a 340?
