A common problem with the threaded upper control arms since the threads are so minimal and often strip. The weld makes sure it doesn't go anywhere. Common issue and common solution!Here's a good one the upper ball joint has been welded to the control arm. That's a no-no!

And mines a 74. So there you go.Control arm/BJ issue is also commonly caused by people who assume they are pressed in and press them out.
They DID change to press in BJ's but IIRC it was during the 74 model year.
