One issue with cutting the shaft and using a joint. You no longer have any way to allow for unibody flex which the factory style coupler did. If using a joint, you'll need to use a telescoping shaft assembly to allow for the flex/movement of the unibody othewise something in the system has to give. You could pull the joint off the box giving you no control. If you are using a Flaming River, Ididit or similar column, you'll need the telescoping shaft since those columns pretty much end just past the outer tube in a double d configuration that gets adapted to what you need using their joint and telescoping shaft as the go between.

The other issue is the rubber around the joint. This numbs the on center feel. I also had one fail leaving the joint very loose.
