I hope to get my 440 heads and intake done tonight. The book I’m using says to first install the oil pump drive shaft ahead of installing the intake but don’t I need to leave it out to be able to prime the oil pump/engine thru the dizzy hole?

You can pull the intermediate shaft with the intake in place. I've done it.

I made a "priming shaft out of a 18" piece of 3/8" Drill rod and a 5" long piece of 5/16" allen wrench (I think that's
the size). Take out the intermediate shaft and put it in a reversible drill.
