Extra holes

My 78’ 440 block has 2 extra .250” cooling passage holes on the deck below each cylinder situated between the head bolts, none of my other blocks had these, is it one year only thing?, 440 source heads are at machine shop so I don’t know if it has corresponding holes, pics on their website don’t show any. I don’t think they are necessary because so many other blocks don’t have them,,,,, comments appreciated!

Think they were called steam holes. Lots of gaskets just cover them as I recall.

They were on my 440.. 452 heads No provisions in the heads for water/coolant to go anywhere.

These are not my heads but they are 452 heads
