Arizona Satellite asked a great question with regards to how big of a tire he could run on his car...I'm wondering the same thing for my 70 Roadrunner.I'm thinking 15 inch for sure but from there it's up in the air.I have a shot at a set of beautiful Centerlines off a buddies 69 Super Bee...8.5 rear...7 front...I was planning on a set of 15 roadwheels but saw a pic of a 70 RR,Tor-red with black vinyl top just like mine with a set of polished Centerlines...wow!
Any words of wisdom guys?

I had 15 x10 with 275 60 on the back of my 70 Road runner. 15 x8.5 shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure on the back spacing.

yes, back spacing is the key, on my 66 coronet I had 15x10 with a 7" neg back space, this was great for street racing because it hid the true width of the tire. Of course that car was mini tubbed with the springs moved in 2", 28x12.50. I think the 15x10 look great on SS1GTX's 70 bird, it give it the perfect balance of tire to wheelwell. JMHO

Guys thanks for your input...I have a very cold, wet winter to decide which way to go...cheers

perceys automotive makes a great tool for measuring out max tire size and wheel size and spacing.you can pick them up at jegs or summit for about 80 or 90 bucks.
i use it all the time for the cars i put together.

I have 275/60/15 on my 66 plymouth satellite but i had to trim the wheel well lip a 1/2 & i used a 15 x 7 steel rim with a 4.5 backspacing & most of the air out of it to get them in there but they fit with a 1 inch clearance front & back.

My car with the tires on.

275/60/15 rear & 245/60/15 front

I have BF Goodrich Silvertown 285/70 R15 in the back of my 68 Satellite. Stock spring location, stock rear axle, non-adjustable shocks. Wheels are Weld Draglite 8" wide, back spacing is 4.5" I believe. See below pics. In the first picture it looks a bit funny due to the flash reflecting off of the convex shape of the sidewall. In front of the tire there is about half an inch of free space with the car sitting on the ground. When the car is on stands and the rear axle is lowered, then it looks like the tire will not fit into the wheel well at all. That's just because the rear axle moves down and forward when the car is on stands.

On the 64 wagon I have 285/70 R15 BFG Radial T/A on 15x7" standard slotted (police) steel wheels. I don't know if either the Silvertown or the Radial T/A's are still in production, though...
