I have hundreds of magazines I have bought over the last 30 yrs and I have more coming everyday. I can't bring myself to throw them away. They are mostly mopar and muscle car magazines. I would love to find some young boys to give them to but I'm not sure where to look. I have taken my old hot rod magazines down to a waiting room at a children hospital. My son was once in the hospital and I couldn't find any magazines worth reading so I started bringing car magazines and leaving them. The next time I came I noticed the car magazines I had left were being read by young guys in the waiting room. I did get some satisfaction out of that. I am not going to take time and try to sell them on ebay.

Maybe I could donate some of them to a school. I'm just afraid some old bag will throw them in the garbage.

Any of you guys having this problem?

I had that problem for awhile. Then I realized that me collecting them was not what I really wanted to do. Plus, I had no way to remember where that one article I wanted to keep was.

Now I throw them all away. If there is an article I want to keep and reference, I tear it out and file it...

I read the title of your post to my wife: She said "you sure his wife isn't posting that"? :)

Yep, I got the same problem. I built some shelves in the garage for the "library".

I weeded out hundreds of magazines going back to 1974, kept just the Mopar ones (which still take up a lot of room) and took the rest to work over a period of many months. It gave a lot of people something to read, and in many cases something to laugh about. The younger guys weren't really aware of how bad cars were getting in the late 70's era...

Our local library has a box for free magazines. I usually grab a few when I'm leaving. I notice old car magazines don't seem to get old, meaning if they were writing about a 1970 Road Runner in 1990 it's still good to read it in 2014. News magazines do get old. I would say ship then to my son at CSU and they'll get passed around but shipping would be too expensive.

I used to have the same problem until I had to move after living in the same place for almost 30 years. I pretty much lost the hoarder mentality when it came time to either move stuff or throw it out (recycle). Now I just read 'em and toss 'em. I'll save a good tech article but not the whole mag. Most of the mag stuff is online for free anyway.

As MoparSmitty said, most are available now on-line. Just trash them or better yet, drop them into a re-cycle bin. Cull the herd so to speak as most of yours I dare say are now way out of date and relevance to the current atmosphere in the Hobby. Just My 2 Cents....cr8crshr/Tuck

I know how the story goes! I got rid of a lot of old mags. back in 92 when I moved! Gave most away the really old ones from the 70's were sold! pennies on the dollar! Now I've got another 20 yrs. worth of Mopar mags! hate to burn them but what's a guy to do! Wanted to give them to the USO for the guys over seas They didn't want to be bothered with the mags.

I use to get them for Birthday or Christmas presents from my girls, not anymore... Any car clubs in the area ?? maybe a shop class in the local HS... Church maybe ?? I also gave a ton on them to a machine tech class at the local JC, they snagged them up like it was gold... I had some 5 or 6 stacks 6' tall & in a dozen plastic crates, they're all gone now, no more subscriptions since 2008... The hospital is a great idea, when ever I take ol'Pops in & have to wait nothing but crap ladies mags or old news mags... I did keep a few maybe 20 select mags, I just couldn't part with... A garage sale is a great place too, my neighbor across the street got rid of his that way...

Our local cruise rag has a guy that does an article every month and at the end of every one he asks to donate car magazines to Juvenal offender programs.

My wife is hooked up with some kinds program where she sends care packages to our troops stuck over there. Her "guy" had several guys in his platoon into cars,,,,,,,so that's where they went:icon_sunny:

I used to take them to work too but now that I'm retired, I just recycle them or send to troops overseas. It's not hard to get addresses for sending them to various places.

I give mine to a local dialysis center. The folks that go there need to be there for several hours and always appreciate new reading material. Even dropping them off at a doctor's office is doing a good deed. Usually there are just 'chick' magazines available.

I guess I am old school I prefer hard copies.

I thought of taking some to the VA hospital, Military guys are almost always car guys. I have Mopar collector guides from the 80's when they were maybe 15 pages. Hoarder is the word here as well. Or, the original 1973 Z1-A road test in 1972 in perfect condition? I loved that bike!

Never knew so many people had the same sickness as me. Years ago I donated the porno mags to single friends in need. Now I still mopar, harley and rock mags. I'd love to find a new home for these now.

One idea you might think about doin is takem a couple boxes at a time ,in the trunk to car shows put up a sign and a coin jar Car Mags 25 cents each leave money in jar. this way other car guys can enjoyem, they dont go into land fills and you might be able to celebrate with cheap burger on the way home! win, win, CD:hello2:
