Ok so I am building a 72 Satellite.
car was originally a slant 6 3 on the tree - long gone. It now has a 440 727 with a spare 440 and 727 on an engine stand.
I have all but decided to do a LX swap due to power and fuel economy.
I want to be able to put the car in the mid 11s and still be able to drive it daily if i so choose.

now the questions

do you recommend the 5.7 or the 6.1?trying to spend as little as possible so that i can see the car done before i am 40 lol

I have read that ya'll recommend the truck auto or the manual but what about the newer nag standalone computers?

are there any in depth build threads for this swap?

and lastly why do the old muscle builders come on this section and clog up threads by bashing?
if they dont like it dont read it.

thank you ahead of time

Cool idea! Personally, I like a 6.1, but cost might make the 5.7 a lot more affordable. I know they do a electronic conversion kit that is plug and play to make it work electronicalły. Now, as tranny I would see about doing a passion 5 speed conversion. I hope that helps, good luck.

Ok, here is the skinny on what ya need/want/desire/give up your left testicle, lol, so lets get to it.
A stock 6.1 will most likey not get ya in the 11's without a cam/heads/port work on the intake/headers. The nag1 will hold up for awhile (stock) but they can be built to hold a **** load of power and with the stand controller its a win win situation.
Now to the meat....a stroked 5.7 along with the above mentioned will blow the doors off a 6.1, and they are plentiful unlike the 6.1. Send lxmodguy a pm, he can set on the straight and narrow, super cool guy and knows his ****, so do yourself a solid and get ahold of him. Got more questions, let us know.
