After playing with Chevys for years and switching to Mopar I ended up with a spare 427 Chevy engine and an 18 spline Mopar 4 speed transmission. I thought I would do one more project and put them together. I bought a 73 Camaro Rally Sport (very rough) re-skinned the whole car, put the 427 in it. I read an article where in the late 60s drag racers learned that Chrysler 4 speeds where stronger than Muncies and figured out how to put them together. So in looking for the adapter I eventually found that Passon Performance makes them still. Bought one and sure enough it is a cake walk. Now I have a Chevy that burns rubber like a Mopar!

Did it require cutting the input shaft on the Hemi transmission?

It was already cut off. It looks like it would not need to be since the adapter is 1 inch thick and holds the trans back far enough. There is still sufficient reach to engage the pilot bushing.

Man, that goes WAY back lol. I even made an adapter for one that came out of a Chevy for a buddy of mine out of 17-4 and it worked great. He was too cheap to buy another input shaft, so.....made it for him. At least I was on company time at a time of the year when we were twiddling our thumbs and trying to look busy.

I had a buddy that ran a Super Gas Vette with a M-22 "Rock Crusher". He broke so many that he eventually swapped in a Hemi 4-speed. Man did I tease him after that. Mopar or No Car!!!

How much did the car weigh if you know? A buddy and I were running a Super Street road runner with a stick and the car was around 3200 at the time and we were killing 8 3/4's and the transmissions. This was 81-82 and was launching at 6k lol Cool thing was that most thought the car had a 4 speed auto in it and would come asking where we got it!! Once the car got a Dana and the weight got to below 3000, it quit breaking. The low budget thing was running 10.70's.....and no electronics but most didn't have any electronics when the super classes were formed.

If I remember correctly, he was running 9.90's at 3000 Lbs with the driver. That number sticks in my head because he wanted to get down to 2800 and I teased him to lay off the doughnuts.

Since Chevy used the Mopar A833 transmission in half ton pickups and vans from 1980 to about 1987, finding one of those might save on looking for adapters and custom bellhousings.

You want to use the Camaro/Chevy throw out bearing and Chevy throw out fork. To fit the throw out bearing over the input bearing retainer you need to have a machine shop take 40 thousandths off. For a pilot bushing I had to shop around and find one that fit the trans and work down the outer side to fit the crank.
