Lares 11043 fast ratio questions

The p/s pump has TWO adjustable parameters:
- pressure
- volume

Pressure is covered in a post above.
Volume. Volume is controlled by the size of the hole in the pressure hose fitting at the bottom the pump.

So pulling shims out of the Saginaw pump should hopefully cure potential idle pressure problems. Of course the 850-1000 rpm idle my 500’s cam may fix any potential idle pressure issues as well.

My Lares box is superb and no mods were necessary, except the return line is different. Yes the PS pump does not put out sufficient pressure at idle, but it is enough to get going, when the pressure is fine. Highly recommended, tho' few miles on it/
I had to put a new Bergson pump that has a larger pulley. I wonder If I was too do this faster ratio box upgrade if I would have a problem.
 
Well , the numbers I have are 15.7 to 1 for most stock mopar steering setups, the factory Fast Ratio excluded, of course.
10 to 1 would be too fast for street use but probably great on an auto cross course.
I have read original boxes from these cars was like 24-1, you say it’s more like 15.7?
 
Manual steering nodes were one the three ratios:
24 to 1. This is the most common.
20 to 1
16 to 1.
 
I've only driven a 24 to 1 manual steered car. I'm not a fan of it. The ratio is slower than I like.
The power steering box itself, designed sometime back in the late 1950s, had the same 15.7 to 1 ratio during it's entire production run. Longer and shorter Pitman arms changed the as installed ratio but the internal guts of the unit maintained the same 15.7 to 1 ratio.

My 70 Chargers steering box was a slush box and back in 1996 when I first got it, there weren’t too many options, unlike today.
 
Removing shims increases pressure.
A larger pump pulley reduces pump speed at some point could affect the output pressure.

Guys! Sometimes the engineers knew what they were doing...& didn't need our help buggering it up.
