Lead or fiberglass which is best?

How much lead will i need to do both quarter panel to the roof seams ?

I have welded seams solid first, before duraglass. I've duraglassed over lead. I've done pure lead. When done properly they will all work. And no, my roof seams don't "move in the sun". How straight is this car?

I remember one of those resto car shop shows from Canada used this method. They portrayed it as the most proper method and the factory would have done it that way if it was practical for the assembly line.

I was wondering if Lab Metal would be a good substitute.

The best way would be to weld all the spot welded seams up then lead and primer then filler and sealer then paint.... never put glass or filler on bare metal if it was all media blasted bare before he leading process one could electroplate the body in copper first no rust would ever come back and the lead would have a good cleen foundation

You are correct when I said duraglass over the welded seam it was primed first.

It's hard to say as it depends on how good you are at applying it. The roof and rockers will take a bit, but the 1/4 seam shouldn't take much at all if your hammer and dolly work is good.

If you've never done it before, you'll burn through a few bars getting the hang of it. When in doubt, over order as you're paying shipping regardless. I'd get at least 8 bars to start.

I know this thread is more on the topic of lead, but just thought I'd note that All-Metal says in the directions to apply on bare metal sanded with something like 60 or 80 grit. I stripped my quarter seams, roughed them up and spread the All-Metal. My friend that does professional restorations uses it this way too, don't think it does as well over a primed or painted surface.

Haven't heard of Lab Metal but it's basically body filler with aluminum in it. It's worked awesome for my friend for years and has worked well for me so far, too.

USC All Metal is decent stuff Speedy, just a pain in the *** to shape/sand...lol. You're fine applying it over roughed metal. I've done the same plenty of times.

Yep that's for sure! Gotta stock up on rolls of 80 grit and remember to eat your spinach lol
