Minnesota Gold

What model Lincoln are you using? I am looking to maybe get one this year and try my hand on the GTX.
Hobart has a better warranty....I picked up a Handler 140 it works great for sheet metal and similar.

Got mine off Craigs list.....new in the box.....not sure where they got it......

Left side quarters are done, time to weld up tomorrow.

I never left the house!

Seems that way right? As I've cleaned and repaired...I'm finding out this car is in better shape then I thought. Its not cheap getting OEM metal and bits together.....but now that I'm butting stuff back, its helpful.....but no matter how well I bagged it, and took pics....I'm still hunting for stuff.....lol
You should try to put stuff back together that's been apart since 98!!

Ok, got the tranny pan off for a peek at the 40 plus year sit, and it’s rather surprising....

Except for seals, I bet it'll work! And they make products to help the seals seal :D

Well, the rear end on this car may be the best part ! Gear Oil was in good shape and as you can see , a bit of a miracle that it s this awesome after sitting for 40 years.

So for all those folks out there trying to get those beefy old leaf spring bushings out, my way requires just a benzo torch, a peen hammer , small chisel and 15 min.
1. Heat the inner metal bolt tube for about 30 seconds, but keep the flame just in the tube....do not ignite the rubber. In both my springs....the tube just fell out.
2. Take a medium flat head screwdriver to break the rubber out in chunks.
3. Use the chisel to create bead down any particular side.....the just tap it out

The very last rusted nut. This was the most stuck nut .....ever......it’s free at last . It’s the last bolt and nut to free up. We are officially in rebuild mode

Did my k member with this combo . Been using it for a while on backer plates and my outdoor gas lanterns . Those things get hot as hell and are on 24 hrs a day. Paint still looks great after 4 years so.....

Got the LCA bushings out in good order. Tried the washer trick first, and was too afraid I’d burn through so I used a cold chisel to fold the rim of the bushing in and welded it up like a metal tootsie roll....came right out

Well, at long last, the parts haven stripped, primed and painted. LCAs have cosmoline added and new bushings throughout. Reassembly is imminent.

Just a quick update.

I was very fortunate to be able to speak to the original owner of the car today. He filled me in on a great deal of details about the maintenance and warranty repairs the car had and the details on the transmission, as it looked so new on the inside. It turns out, that the transmission was repaired under warranty in 71' and really did not got a lot of use in the next 7 years. So he estimates there are less than 10k on it. He also indicated that it had a valve issue in 69' that was fixed via Chrysler as well....drivers side head. That makes complete sense, as when we tore it down the springs looked newer then the passenger. The car also was a fixture in the Alexandria High yearbook from 68-72. I'll get some pics from the book soon to post. The car traveled from Mn to Temple, Tx in 72-75 when the owner opened a Sambo's restaurant there. After that the car made its way back up to Mn where it was stored for a number of years ect......

Passenger fender is off, and it’s way better than the driver.....home stretch on the metal work....one more quarter patch and this sucker is on to filler, primer and paint
