I'm tearing down a 383 to send to the machine shop and I've got just about everything ready but I can't get the darn oil pump off. What's the best way to do it?

Yeah, they can get stuck pretty good. You might have to massage it with a rubber mallet and gently pry on the filter mount to try and get a corner to come up. Another thing may help is to get a carpet knife razor blade and tap it into the gasket space. It just may be enough of a wedge to break it loose and shouldn't damage anything.

Dynamite works good.....but only Canadian dynamite US dynamite will just make you go blind ;)

If all bolts have been removed twisting the pump is the easiest way to break it loose and don't be afraid to use a hammer.Just changed one on a 70 cuda 383 no fun job had to jack engine to get it out.

Agree, all bolts out and twist to break the seal on the gasket. Then you should be able to wiggle it up and off.
