I say you are correct!!!! Or maybe Mother Mopar had the 68 ply in design studio 3 yrs and AMC took only a yr after they stole the file!!??? LOL
Actually you have to give AMC a lot of credit for the styling and performance they accomplished, small company and all.

The 70 always looked so much bigger and heavier than the 68-9. I did not like that.

70 my neighbor had a red one and my dad would prep it for drag racing and I loved set set in it and pretend that the trophies laying in the back seat were mine! Got one and hopefully some day after it's released from paint prison, I'll get to race in my red runner!

this car doesn’t have a single option, except of course for the TrakPak package, which was not technically an option! It’s about as bare bones sleeper as you can get!

1969 is my choice. Why?
...best grill
...best tail lights
...best trunk
...best dash (no center vent cover for non-ac cars)
...the Road Runner emblems are in COLOR
...rectangular corner markers
...door lock / unlock easier to reach
68 is a close 2nd
70 is 3rd

The door decals in color are a big plus for me, hopefully I'll get them out of a box and on sooner than later...

The hood / air grabber on the '70 was the deciding factor years ago when I bought my first Mopar.
I still like that and in a perfect world I'd have a '70 in addition to my '69.

As mentioned, the '69 is just a bit "cleaner" with the grille, tail lights and side markers.
Square shape is just a bit more modern that the '68, circular I like better on a Charger (maybe because of the tail lights).

I agree that it was a nice design, but it looked like a copy of the 1967 Rebel.

I have never seen one of those...if you squint your eyes and try real hard, Maybe you can pick out one similarity. The dramatic body style change was from the 67 to the 68 Mopar ..........................MO

Just now noticed. the 1968 and probably 69 had angular design in the front and rear ends . The 1970 is straight across like a bulldozer blade. Makes them look blocky ...................MO

It's not quite straight, there's a forward angle that shows up in the hood front edge then straightens out at the headlights. The bumper follows this shape.

It is interesting how 93% of the votes (at this point) are for the "performance" years, and most of those the 68-70 years.

The differences in look, for example, between 71 and 72 models is minimal. I wonder if the votes would change a bit if we took out performance, assuming that the same performance engines were available all years. Would there be more votes for 72 and up? (I am guessing with the fed mandated big bumpers in 73 and up the answer is no...)

Although I like them all, to me the 70 just has it all. The looks of a 70 are perfection to me, and the others have most of everything you would expect from a great car, but the 70 has it all!

I had a red 68 383 Road Runner,and while I liked the car,it was so plain inside,It made me really miss my 70 Charger R/T SE when I was driving it. When I was in my 70 Road Runner,I felt right at home being a Charger guy. The 70 highback bucket seats were a big improvement comfort wise as well.

The answer is: Own one of every year RR!!!!!!!! I have done that decades ago when they were cheap and everywhere!!!!! BUT backthen no one made $60000 a yr. Then add in a few GTXs, maybe a couple with Hemi power. (the real one). Now we are talking!

IMO, I have a combination I really like . The 68 Roadrunner grill and hood scoops ( I never really liked the 69 scoops) The 68 GTX interior with factory air dash, the 1968 side markers, 1968-69 body style and roof, If for not wanting a car that looked like my new ordered 68 Roadrunner, I would have the 1969 tail lights and trunk lid. I wonder if the 69 quarter extensions would bolt up to the 68 quarters? I tried to put 1969 headlight trim on my 68, but I could not get them to fit. .............................MO

This is one of the reasons why 70 Road Runner's are the best, where else are you going to look through the the windshield of a convertible B body over a rallye dash? Maybe if you have one of those rare Charger R/T convertibles you could!
