Potentially dumb question

Hey guys, I wanna convert my 67 coronet to disc brakes in the front current set up is drums with manual dual reservoir master cylinder. I found a complete used factory disc brake dual piston (I believe it said) set up from a 69 charger but they are power disc, comes with proportion valve spindles basically everything, I really am not wanting to put a brake booster in the car as the cam is quite large and just dont wanna put a booster in, guess my question is can I run these brakes with manual master cylinder or do I have.to run the booster? I probably sound dumb but ya never know unless ya ask someone smarter

you can easily run them brakes without a booster. all thats needed is a 15/16 bore master cylinder. you have a bit more to pedal travel but less effort and this setup works just fine in that configuration.

Staying with manual, since ya already have it simplifies things. No booster and the hassles that can come with converting to power including involving pedal ratio. Ask me how I came to know, lol. As posted there are MC’s for manual and for power brake setups. You will need the prop valve.

I am running manual disc brakes
and I have good brakes but it takes a lot of force to stop in a panic situation
One mistake I made when I did the swap was to use the wrong Master cylinder
you want one with a 15/16 inch bore

I'd avoid those 4-piston calipers like the plague. They were always trouble. There are better options out there. Later model single piston setup using the spindle, etc..

I just did the exact same thing you are wanting to do but as others have mentioned avoid the older calipers and rotors. Here is an article to get you started and also do a search here on the forum this topic has been kicked around quite a bit. I got lucky and scored some spindles off ebay for cheap otherwise I would have just purchased everything from Cass over at Dr Diff. As it was I ordered most of it from him anyway.

If that’s what you have and don’t want to pay to find a change run with it. I have 4-piston and yeah, I agree, not my preference, but it was in the kit I paid a nice sum for and ran with that. Bleed them well, make sure the pads are burr-free and guides lubricated. Do a check on them annually - clean/re-lubricate. My old vette had them in it and ended up having to insert sleeves as the damn bores pitted out. That car was exposed to salty roads before I got it. But they had run 50k before I had to do it. I won't be running my ride anything near another 50k before I'm gone, lol. My car only is driven in summer and stored in a heated garage...rarely will even see any rain.

also since you have a 67 coronet you will need to use FMJ rear hung calipers
otherwise you will have issues with your front sway bar
rear hung calipers are the easiest way to do the swap

Yup. use a later 70's mopar single piston setup. I did.

I have no sway bar on it, hit a deer in 2013 and tow truck bent sway bar never put one back on after repair and repaint. Ive heard 73-76 A body disc set up will work if I swap side to side?

Yes buy you a fresh package as I did for my 67 Gtx, fresh everything, I used drilled and slotted rotors and the install was a snap , really great brakes , use new spindles and timken bearings , stainless braided lines , you will be glad you did , bleed m/c on bench , then bleed system really well , used a system from harbor freight which connects to compressor and it’s cheap not junk , good brand makes the process easy , have fun and good luck , have a Happy Mopar Day ! No that will not work
if you swap side to side the bleeders will be on the bottom of the Caliper and will never bleed the air out
you need calipers designed to be rear hung if you put them on the back of the rotors

73-76 a body are front hung calipers if you want to use them as rear hung calipers you gotta swap sides with spindles along with the calipers.
