Having the original weak 3 on the tree. Exhausting my efforts on finding a way to use any sort of 3 speed floor shifter and pricing out everything needed for a 4 speed. It looks like the most obvious and economical route is an 904 at least. Anyone done this. Does it truly hurt resale value. Is there another way?? 66 Dodge charger. 318.

I doubt an auto conversion on a 3 on the tree hurts resale. 4spd conversion should help it.

I guess if still want to be a 'boy racer', stick with man trans. All my cars have been auto trans....& you can install a man valve body if you are so inclined.

A small block 727 would be more appropriate for your (I'm guessing) 318 poly engine.

Hard to believe getting a good quality 727, flex plate, converter, coolant lines, shift linkage, etc, would be any cheaper than a rebuilt 23 spline 4-speed and shifter assembly. I guess the unknown on my part is if the bellhousing and clutch assembly would swap over to a 4-speed. Either way you will also need a different console plate.

Well. Lol.

Not sure i agree with this.....mine shifts way, WAY too early although there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with it.... i'd find that car to be way more enjoyable with a three speed (4 speed even moreso) if it was floor shifted as the OP states.

Have yah priced those all out?

Have you priced out a rebuilt A727, converter, flex plate, used or repro shifter, kick down linkage and brackets, coolant lines, and remanufactured driveshaft. You are looking at no less than $2,500 with the cheapest $1600 727 I can immediately spot in a google search.

The cheapest route would be to just swap in a 3-speed floor shifter for $400 plus a console plate change.

So, this car would have the blank no-shifter console plate, since console was standard equipment in 1966. Console became optional for 1967, so, 3-on-the-tree cars would have no cosole, or optional buddy seat.

After holding them for decades, I just recycled 3 or 4 3-speed shifters last year. I may or may not have held onto one of them and can check if you are interested.

There has to be a way..... we dont want you to resort to taking up collecting Chevys as a hobby lol.
Lol. Right? Maybe im the only honest one. But prices are ridiculous. Even junk people are asking way too much. If anyone is truly interested in keeping this hobby alive for the younger generation. They better start waking up.

I could make you a heck of a deal on a 3 speed from a 67 satellite that has an aftermarket Hurst Indy floor shifter attached. The shifter is somewhat of a universal kit, but it came out of a running and driving car that the guy converted to a 440/727. If you can find a way to get it to you....it's yours for free (trans, bell, shifter, lower bell cover). If interested, I can get you some pictures.
