Hi all, I am looking at paint for my GTX. In Canada we can only get waterborne paint. I'm having trouble finding a paint formula to get the color right. It is going GF7 green. Also, I have heard horror stories about adhesion problems with the water base, does anyone have any experiences (good, bad or otherwise) with the water base paints? Thanks for any info.

Will you be shooting the car yourself,or bring it out??
Our shop switched to water a few years ago. When it's done properly it looks fantastic!

I will be sending it out to be painted. I haven't nailed down which shop yet. My plan is to paint the jambs, engine bay, inner fenders and insides of the doors and trunk myself. Then once it's all assembled I can take it in to have the remainder sprayed. The guy I talked to today said they couldn't mix from a factory code and that I would have to bring in a painted sample to match from. Which is tough to do when there isn't any factory paint left on my car!
HEMI- which brand of paint are you using?

Honestly I'm not sure, thinking Spies:blob1: If your bringing it out,I would let them paint everything. You can prep and sand then put some primer.Let them do a final DA and shoot it.

I just got my car sprayed from Investment Vehicle Restoration. Not sure what your budget is... You can talk to Dion over at Power Chief. He is a decent guy and does honest work. I know a guy down at Cosmos he paints nice too.

Not sure how old this post is but you can once again get solvent based base coat in Canada. I think that in Alberta you have a Carlson Auto Body Supplies Dealer, they'll set you up.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm gonna contact Carlson and see what they can do for me.

The water-based paint needs heat to cure and adhere properly and IR heaters a pretty spendy. If your going that way I recommend having it all done at once to avoid a cold spray. The solvent-based urethanes are hot enough that you can shoot fresh paint over cured paint, water-based...not so much. It'll probably flake off.
