Weight

I recently read a study (from the UK, I think) that found the number one predictor of cardiac health in your retirement years isn't how much you've worked out or how well you've eaten all your life. It's if you've had a sit down job or not. They went on to say that only the most fanatical people can outwork a sedentary desk job. The main suggestion was simply standing up for a couple hours a day at your desk (by placing your keyboard on top of a milk crate, etc.). Now Steve, I have no idea if this fits you, but there it is.

I also wonder how much of an effect stress hormones and insuline resistance have. These are things I'm doing more to educate myself on.

I'm just about to turn 42, and I love to run / ride. Over the past couple of years I've had a string of nagging injuries so I've out in almost 20 pounds and it has definely been tougher than ever to take them off. I've taken 5 lbs off so far, and it's taken a couple of months for sure. All I've done: cut down the pasta / bread / beer / wine / donuts / muffins and huge porterhouse steaks down a bit and add in some high nutrient, low calorie food.

Plus I've cut down the running, as 40 miles a week was just too much and constantly causing those damn injuries. Now I run maybe 20 miles a week and add in some core / yoga / more cycling / basic weight lifting. Plus I always workout in some way when I take the kids to the park.

Wow God Job HT413!!

Steve its Never to late to get in shape !! Personally i would get Help from a trainer who could push you and keep you accountable, "if your seriously over weight"
if you just trying to knock off 20-30 pounds you must change your eating Habits regardless,

Discipline is like a Muscle if you don't use it, you lose it.

i find i can eat just about anything i want just in moderation, (unless the doctor said to stay away from it) witch in my case has never happened.

Soda ! almost completely given it up, here in Cali in-n-out burgers is the place to be, when i go there all i have is a small burger and a Water ! Water ! Water ! Water ! its all about the Water my friend !! Drink Lots and Lots and Lots of water Cant stress that Enough, also as you mentioned no more eating pass 8:00 but have a back up snack, something really healthy like fruit or nuts (just not mine) Lol
Good Luck- Take Baby steps and remember failer happens to all of us, so when you feel discouraged, learn from it, Digg Deep and find that Discipline !!

Great point about the soda, moparcrazy, and about sticking it out.

Remember, if it took 10 years to stack the weight on, why do we expect it to take 10 weeks to shed it?

This pathetic and weak post reminds me of what has happened to this Forum.

Now we are all like women on the ABC TV show The View..."I'm fat and bloated"
Seriously?
This is what "WE" talk about?

Give me a break!

Ski's right, let's talk about something better like cleaning the glass table.

Thanks, I gave up soda long ago and i do drink a good amount of water. Ive never had a sedentary type of job since i started working full time 46 years ago. I use to run but my knees are bad so i walk as much as possible,in fact i enjoy it. I find lately my wind is not great but I'm thinking its more the hot and humid weather and its only when I'm really exerting myself like digging or swinging a sledge/carrying steel. Last year i broke up my garage foundation and poured a new one so i really think its weather related. Im determined to get down to 199 just to say I'm less than 200 LOL. The one thing i really did enjoy that gives you a great workout and improves stamina and wind is the heavy bag. I love working combinations, and as you know the bag doesnt hit back LOL. Ive been hit enough anywayLOL..... Thanks for the replies

Nothing wrong with trying to get in shape, don't understand the folks that take offense to that either?? For me it's always been about staying super active, my job has me on my feet all day but it also has me waking up at 4:30 AM causing me to really like caffeine. I've managed to stay right around 170-175 up until I had kids and hurt my back, since then I've had to give up riding and life has slowed to where I'm now 185. Recently I bought BMX bikes for me and the kids, I surprisingly really enjoy it but the kids can't even come close to hanging with their old man haha.

I just built the kids (me!) a bmx track out in the far back of the property. I restored my old bmx a few years ago and me and the kids (7, 4 and 2 years old) go ripping it up back there on some combination of bmx, scooter and running. Boy is it fun and a great workout!

I plan to introduce rc cars and eventually mini bikes and quads as they grow and have probably 50 yards of good fill from the recent home addition waiting to be turned into jumps and burms. Can't wait!

Why should I rat on myself ? Really !

I have an '88 GT Mach one, nothing too fancy but I bought it with my allowance back in the summer of '88 (back when I was 13). Glad I kept it.

Go to bmxmuseum.com, it's a lot like FBBO, lots of good people restoring their old bikes. Tons of parts for sale and advice. I picked up some old school race hubs, spokes and rims and actually hand built the wheel set that I always drempt about but could never afford.

Hey man, webco really brings back memories. By time I was into it, webco was one of the old school frames. Check this out...

Glad you kept it, bro.

OP started it, like a bunch of house wives...ILMFAO

I've dropped about 12 lbs just by eating a little better. I'd like to loose another 20, but I'll settle for 10.
personal activity really buys you the ability to eat better tasting, high calorie foods!
At 50, I am still framing and building things at work. I get a decent sweat going every day, moving almost the whole time. I have to dial back my intake when I am in between jobs to keep from getting fat.
Maxim magazine wrote once that losing 30 lbs has the effect of adding an inch to your tool. I'd have to lose 100 lbs to do **** movies though.
