Welding out the last cage….

Exactly my issue. I need lots of back lighting and even then, they don’t adjust quickly when the arc initiates and don’t seem to want to adjust with changes in distance.
I have read that the average person loses approx 50% of their night vision by age 40. It is so gradual its's hard to notice the decline, and our brain compensates to a large degree until it gets overwhelmed as it indicated here by many. I think the problem here really is the inability to adapt to the range of contrast vs just adding more light. Adding light actually reduces the contrast, and makes it easier to see the weld process.

It may be tough. But how many here could weld like that when they were young? Not me. It's me longer these days. But still do everything I've ever done (except water ski). Just spent 3 days under my dually installing a under bed hitch, cutting the bed mat, modifing and remounting the air bags, and repairing the emegency brake. In the driveway on my back, rain, wind, leaves, 40 d-50degrees, and in the dark using a trouble light. More picky now a days than ever so the 25 year old brackets got cleaned and painted as well. Not even very sore at after. I'm only 71 after all. Never give up.
