what other non car projects are you working on?

Getting ready for Halloween! This year I'm making a new Pennywise from the new It movie. I got the body done and costumed and now we're working on the head/mask.

Second project for this year is Pumpkinhead. I just finished welding the leg extensions and getting them into the mannequin's legs. Once that's done it's all bodywork and paint. We'll start by dunking paper towels into latex house paint and laying them over the mannequin to create a wrinkly skin. Then add bumps, bulges, and other details made with epoxie clay, then cover everything in Flex Seal spray rubber, and then paint.

Mine too! Ever since I built my first Aurora Creature kit in 1969 I've been wanting a lifesize version and he was the first major prop I built. He got to sit out last Halloween because he was serving a tour as a museum exhibit at the Jacksonville Museum of Science and History. They did an exhibit on movies made in the Jacksonville area, and Revenge of the Creature was shot here. But he's back home now and hanging out in the man cave until we get him back outside in October. :)

Can you say wood working project!!!!

First project - A skyline audio diffuser for my music studio. Consisted of making 393 2x2 blocks in 3 different sizes and gluing them on backer board and painting.

Second project, refinished and repaired the old toy box from my childhood, it was originally just bare wood with a design on the front, and sometime when I was little it got painted orange, so I decided to refinish it.

Third project was to refinish this desk that sat in the parents garage for 35 years, half of the paint was stripped off, so I took it apart and stripped it and sanded it down then stained it, turned out real nice.
Here is before, I didn't get a shot before I took it apart, but this should give an idea of what a mess it was.

Can you say wood working projects (continued)

The fourth project is recently started is working on this late 1800's early 1900's armoire. It belonged to my great aunt, and came from Louisiana 40 years ago and was in the rafters at my late parents house. Its in rough shape, with water damage, mice and termite damage, dry split parts, and missing parts.

Here is an idea of what it looked like when I got started, this is one of the doors.

Here is the center part after sanding and getting ready to remove the veneer from the center, as it was water damaged and cracked and pealing.

Repaired the side panel for the bottom of the armoire as a big chunk of wood was broken off and missing.

Put the sides and back on just for giggles to get an idea of how it was all fitting together.

Its coming along, I will be surprised if I get this one done by the end of the year, its a big piece of furniture, 7.5 feet tall, so hopefully I can find a place to put it when it gets done.

I myself putter around on guitars and mandolins .

I also restored 4 lamps this summer, here are two of them, one is the brass one in my previous post, it got a good clean and replaced the shade and switch, and the 4th one was just a clean and replace the cord.

Here are the two that needed some work, first the white one, its now powder coated, and it had two coats of paint on it covering up a fake distressed brass finish, so I stripped it down, and had it powder coated, replaced the felt bottom, cord, socket and switch, and got a new shade for it.

This one was a very careful and diligent clean and replace switch, cord, shade, felt bottom and socket. Its made of lead crystal and cast brass.

Just finished this. The room it was going in doesn't have any wood items, it is black and white so the coffee table wont work and now it has to go. At least it is a project complete.

I’ve never known anyone who restores lamps, they look really good, nicely done.

Yep, older lamps are good quality, heavy materials and made very well. I just cant throw that stuff away. Here is another one, this one just needed cleaning and new cord and a socket adaptor because it uses industrial size bulbs, its a 1940's era art deco torch lamp. You don't see new stuff with glass shades like this anymore!!

That’s pretty cool. I work in attics and basements of a lot of old buildings, now I’ll keep a look out for old lamps. I’m currently in the attic of a building built in 1929. There are about a half dozen lamps in here but they look like crappy cheap lamps.

1955 Shasta 1300 travel trailer. Ice box, gas range. Sorta-stripped out currently. Inherited this from my late brother. It spent most of its life in Colorado, and made the 800-mile trip home behind my V6 Dakota just fine. It'll look great behind the Coronet next Summer!

Actually some of those floor lamps are really popular now, check and see if they have the sockets for larger than normal bulbs, called Mogul sockets, that will give you an age, and if they do use them, they are more valuable. The multi-bulb ones there look to be from the 60's or 70's. 50's on back is what you want with floor lamps.

Thats a amazing looking lil camper. And hooked to the mopar. Love it.

This was a first for me as I have never built anything this size before. I completed it over one summer by myself. My Linda had a very small place on the existing counter in which to work so I suggested we "bump out" the East wall on the kitchen. I made a couple of major flubs but nothing that affects the safety and longevity of the structure. This new counter ended up just a few inches under seven feet wide and thirty-three inches deep, plus she is under five foot so the counter is custom height for her ease of working. And much to my disappointment, the framing pictures are missing. Anyway you get the idea.
