Hello I’m new to the site and hope I’m putting this in the right section…. I have a 68 hemi charger and on front pad it’s stamped bh 426, it’s dated 12/28/26 which I believe means dec28, 26th built on that date, on this same pad it’s stamped marine why I have never seen on a 426 hemi….. I know it’s not a wedge block…. Side of block is Cast 2468330-1, just curious about the marine stamp…. I’ve heard that bitd and motors that originally failed on dyno were sent to marine division for rebuild…. Thanks in advance

Well, i owned a 71 Hemi GTX, 4 speed car for 28 years, and i never heard your "theory" before if a hemi engine failed on the dyno, it went to the marine division for rebuild.
Where did you ever hear this theory?
It's a new one on me.
And i never heard of any of the engines being "dyno'd" after assembly.
And another thing, what do you mean by a "marine" stamp?
Never heard that one either.
A picture sure would be meaningful, what your talking about.

On the front pad it’s stamped marine above the date stamp… actually stamped 490 auto marine…. And not my theory it was just something I seen in a thread on a lessor mopar site lmao…. I’m still trying to figure out how to resize pics so I can post, my buddy has a 66 block and has date stamp and everything else but doesn’t have marine stamped on it…. Apreciate your response

That's why you need to post a picture of that stamping pad on the engine.
A factory stamping, i dunno, or some machine shop stamping of their own, in the life of the block?
Too many variables here.
Like that old Chinese proverb, "A picture is worth a thousand words"

I think all stampings other than BH 426, 2-28-26, and the maltese cross came from somewhere else.

i know a guy that actually worked at the Hatteras Yacht facility here in High Point NC back in the late 60's and 70's . he said they use to use the hemi engines in the Yachts there and told me about the pallets of Hemi's they kept in the engine room at that time

It means that the engine is defective and as such, you should sell that silver Charger ASAP.

When you decide to sell, I should be able to locate someone to take it off your hands.

I know for a fact that the MALTESE CROSS means that the short block is not to factory production specs. I had a 440 that came in a 72 Charger RT/SE and it had that Maltese Cross on it. My shop is on Dave Koffel's property in Huron, Oh. and he told me he would like to see the crank & rods when I pull the pan as I was rebuilding the motor. Well it had A FORGED crank & six pack FORGED rods ! The crank rods & mains were .010 under and this motor was NEVER apart because this was the original owner. His Dad bought this car from Hollywood Dodge in Calif. and had ALL the docs including the original cancelled check that he put down as a 100.00 deposit ! Come to find out it was used in several commercials and was on Mannix TV show.

Ron H , The owner was Chris Sheaves and he is activley trying to find & buy the car back as it has changed hands twice since he sold it. It's one of the most well documented highly optioned 72 Chargers out there. And it runs very good and rides like a Imperial, but with a factory power sun roof !
