looks like people tearing off or reinstalling roofing

roofing is a hot & tough job, especially in the heat

been there, done that, no thanks

I do hope whom ever it is, they do a good job,
have the proper permits, inspections, proper licenses
& pay their taxes

Sorry about the pic quality. I was working across the street. Didn't hear one word of english.

I just had the roof of our old house (that my son is buying from us) re-roofed and they were all South Americans. Not an easy job at all in 95 degree heat. I don't know whether they were legal or illegal, but those sob's worked their asses off.

Well if the house was in Florida and was owned by an elderly couple, I'd say they were Gypsies and there wont be any shingles going back on.

Not very many Americans are willing to work like a Mexican. Unless you're a diy'er or just someone helping a friend, many that I've seen are too good to jump up on a roof. Mexicans have pretty much took over the roofing jobs in my area. There's a few roofers here that are American, but not many.

Got to watch though, they get paid by what they carry on a roof, not by size of roof. They're not afraid to throw a bundle off the roof and bust the corners or just bust open a bundle.

Being in the trades since 87, i know a lot of white boy roofers that would disagree.

I've worked harder in hotter temperatures worse conditions than any Mexican I've ever seen, for less money. When I was 17 years old, $4/hour 110 degrees with high humidity in the Ozarks, paving streets with asphalt. The asphalt coming out of the trucks at 300 degrees Fahrenheit. When there were no streets to pave I was sent into a metal tank that was 135 degrees to shovel out muck. To step outside 100+ degrees felt like a cool breeze. I worked hard and was happy to have a job.

One dangerous hot job I had in Oklahoma we worked 12 hour shifts. The Mexicans on night shift all walked off so they came to the motel, pulled us out of bed and we covered for them until they hired some new guys. Wah Waah!

If roofing is too damn hard for you poor Mexicans stay the F in Mexico! It might drive up American citizen's roofer's wages.

I was a Union Ironworker (Local #399) for 16 years. I have been 100 stories up in 100 degree temps. I have tied rebar 150 feet above the ocean on the Edison bridge. I have welded in temps so low, the flux froze. I was at the World Trade Center clean-up after 911. I don't want to hear about what "A Mexican will do that an American won't"!! I call Bullshit!! I will do whatever it takes to support MY family.

4 of the 8 guys who paved my driveway were Mexican. He said his head Mexican $600 a day another $400 the others $250. They worked their asses off. Neighbor ask to enlarge his parking pad, they went over there after they were done with me. They finished at 7:45 pm. Showed at 8:15 am at my place, I figure they started 7:30 am at the latest. Oh it was 95 degrees at 1 pm.

I live in northern Ohio 20 minutes from Sandusky where the large landscape/nursery co Crosos was busted with over 120 illegals. Corsos has a 3 yr contract to mow my moms condo complex. Wasn't a single English speaking guy and their work was **** ! Missed spots, butchered the trees when they pruned, just ****. And the owners didn't have a clue they were illegals LMAO ! I work telecommunication const and thank god these people can't get into our business.

Why do you need to speak english to be a roofer ???
We have a rule over here that for every 8 non-English speaking workers, at least one of them needs to be fluent in English. It is so that local authorities can communicate when inspecting the job, or suppliers delivering etc. It's considered a Health & Safety policy as well....if something falls off the roof, and the guy underneath doesn't understand when you are yelling at him to "Get the Fu&& out of the way" ...that's a problem. If there's an accident and you need to phone for assistance....most local Hospitals or the Ambulance service don't necessarily have interpreters at hand.

Since everybody is ringing there own bell, let me ring mine. I worked as a Millwright/welder and then as a union boilermaker since my late twenties, before that i was in operations in power generation. Ive worked in every type of heat/cold/outside/heights and did it up until i was 62 from 18. In addition a lot of OT , usually well over 700 hours, i worked P/T welding and fitting for contractors. I still work P/T
I know and have known many Mexican men who work very hard. There is a reason why i never see a white guy doing a water main or sewer, putting a roof on or doing concrete work. Its because the average American doesnt want to do it. They also wont work for that kind of money. Mexican workers are like anybody else. Some are lazy and shifty but most are good and work hard.
When i was young all you ever saw was Italians doing concrete work. All the laborers were Italian were i live. These guys worked like dogs and didn't complain. They were mostly immigrants to our country who learned there trade back home and brought there skills to America. Most spoke broken English. Times are constantly changing and another ethic group will replace hard working immigrant Mexicans some day.
