I Can Never Pull Straight into My Garage

Parking my 1972 Satellite Sebring Plus is always a problem. I don't know where the problem lies: the newer garage, the body lines of the vehicle, or an old man who can no longer see straight. If I try to straighten it out once inside, more times than not, I actually make things worse.

I alway back in, huge peve of mine is pulling in straight. The wife always pulls in, there usually words when we ride together and park. I also point my mirrors funny, I hate headlights in them. So I hang my head out to back in.

My wife uses the garage at home, she hasn't taken out a wall yet, but averages a mirror or two a year .

If pulling in, paint a white line on the floor where you want the front tire on the drivers side to be and the back will follow. Sort of like the parking lots where these cars went to after coming off the assembly line before getting shipped out. The car jockys put the drivers side front tire on the line to park. But then again if you can't see well...put in one of those rail systems like in car washes that catch the drivers side front tire between the two rails then just keep your hands off the steering wheel.

I marked my tire location with tape and also have mirrors on the wall to make sure the passenger side is clear when I pull into the garage.

Just remember its wider in the rear than the front. One of the great characteristics of the 71-72 bodies.

Excellent answer.

You're obviously not a tradesman who needs that special ability to see through walls. You need to become one with the car, and visualise where the Body is. Electricians learn this skill as apprentices for such tasks as blindly drilling down walls, when it is impossible to know what's inside the wall.

I have rubber balls (no wise cracks) hanging in 4 stalls, placed to hit the windshield on center when parking correctly. I mounted Unistrut on the ceiling so I could adjust easily for different cars.

I see this a lot and it's usually the Big Lincoln, Cadillac SUV's. You know those privileged special people. They are the ones in front of the grocery store fire lane with their 4 ways on. The 4 ways make it okay.

The body lines on 71-72 plymouths take some getting used to. Even worse if the rear is jacked up.
