Lookie what $5000 buys you....

Cool car. I really like the FK5/black vinyl top color combo. Bench seats in a second gen Charger must not be very common? Can't say I have ever seen one set up like that.

You need to put in one of these...

I don't think he said bench seat.
I read buddy seat, which comes with buckets.

Can you register a car with a salvage title in CA?
I don't think you can in FL.

Hey, it's a big block car!

Nice catch KD. Keep posting pics as you go along fixing it up. Have you gotten an idea on what motor you will want to put in it?

Bought a real nice 70 Challenger in 1980 for 2000 and thought that was a bit high but even back then, nice ones were already getting hard to find. It already had a cracked dash pad and 100k miles too but popped on it anyways. Kept it for 18 years....

One thing to make clear to the frame shop... The car will be fixed... Back in the 90's a friend took a Roadrunner into a local shop & had them pull the frame "Straight" well when he picked the car up it visually was much better but things didn't seem to line up... I told him we needed to remeasure everything.. He insisted professionals had taken care of it... When the car was finished, painted & beautiful but wouldn't sit level no matter how make sets of springs he changed I convinced him he needed to take measurements.... The drivers rail was still about 3/4" high....

Of course the frame shop denied any responsibility, "It was right when it left here"...

I guarantee they saw an old car that they figured would never be fixed or if it was it would be a beater.... They were wrong... But he had to eat the repair which wound up being extensive...
It's nuts when 'non-professionals' know more than the pros or trust them to always be right.....

The doors open and close just fine. There is a bit of an impression at the firewall though.
Mig? Oh yeah...I've welded a LOT over the years. Frame connectors, torque boxes, quarter panels, exhaust systems, I've modified tools, all sorts of mayhem.
The core support on the car is shredded. The RH frame rail is bent upward. I'm wondering if I have the car up on jackstands, could I just put a long pipe on the frame rail and bend it down to match the right side ? Once the frame is within spec, I could weld in the replacement core support, right?
What worries me is welding something and having it somehow "Spring back" from the adjustment. In construction, we often adjust a little past what is needed and once a brace is removed, it springs back to where we want it.

I'm assuming you have no anchors in your floor; you would have to chain the front of the rail to the floor...... also, you must be chained to the floor somewhere behind the rail. I would prob fab up something to attach to the spring hanger ............. then jack on the T bar member where it meets the rail, or on the rail itself somewhere behind the bend........ "spring back" is another myth; yes, you "over pull" a bit, but once your done it won't go back

ME? I would just replace the rail and inner , maybe both rails, inners, and core support as a unit, just cut everything that's bent off......... the hood and fenders, will dictate everything

Cool project. I like the XH models and fk5 is an upgrade I would think.
It could have been green like your first car after all.

Looks like he did say bench seat.
FK5 burnt orange with matching interior.
thats Gotta be a rare combo, yes?
i imagine it would be a stunning car when restored.
Great score Kern....
ive been eyeing a green one,70s are my fav, that the guy wants a truck in trade for.

OK, I'll say I have never seen a pre-1971 Charger with a bench seat.

OK, I'll say I have never seen a pre-1971 Charger with a bench seat.

They were available (in that body style) in 1970 only. I've only seen one & that was on a used car lot back in the late 1970's. That car was a bare bones slant 6 three-on-the-tree car.

First time I don't see RC complaining about a rusty car:rofl::poke: @Richard Cranium

That's because I've seen too many buy complete rot boxes for substantially more than what Greg just bought his for not realizing how much it costs and what it takes to bring a car back. Greg does.....or at least gives the impression that he does.

The wagon in Carson city has 11" drums. I'm going to either keep the 10" drums with this axle or some disc brake kit.
It has a salvaged title but it is clean.
It is surprising that I had to pay $5000 to get a car that needs this much work considering that my other '70 Charger was bought for $1700 in March 2000 and it ran and drove great!

Add a 0 to your 2000 purchase for my 'running/driving' 68 I bought in 2017. I had to immediately start a full restoration on. Times have changed, that's for sure. Enjoy the project.

The seller is almost as excited to see something happen with the car as I am. He keeps touting the rarity of the 383, the bench seat, the FK5 color....
Yeah, a bench seat Charger is rare but I doubt anyone gets all wiggly about it. The 383 is not a bad engine but this isn't an R/T model. FK5 burnt Orange looks nice and is a one year only color so that is nice.
I don't know if this is one that I would keep long term. I see it as a builder that I may straighten out and get running, then sell. I may do the bodywork and paint, I'm not sure. I often go 'round and 'round with these cars with whether I paint them a color that I like or return it to the original color. I've only repainted a small percentage of these builders in their original color. The '65 Dart is DD1 and the Duster is B-5 Blue, they both were built these colors originally.

I get wiggly over bench seats.
I would prefer them in this car (and Road Runners).
A bodies had a type front of seat that is the prefect combination for me.
Fold down arm rest.
Swapped my cars out to it.
