Installing an Edelbrock PRO- FLO 4 XT on a 440 (Lets open the Box)

I failed to mention, this is to replace a Megasquirt MS2 and FAST Throttle body. I've always fought inconsistent A/F readings and compensation, and will be pulling the MS2 off and throwing it on my old 75 International TravelAll's 392. I won a brand new Aeromotive EFI fuel tank at Spring Fling/MATS, and will have my old Phantom setup to move to the TravelAll's tank. More projects... I really hope this thing can handle a 496 stroker with a .605 lift solid flat cam. I make about 9" at idle.

I am running a 540 with a 600 inch Hyd Roller, I make a little more vacuum then you, and it runs AWEOME!!

Hello All,

Well I am still Hood less, to many things going on and now Christmas..

Wanted to update.. I have been taking the car on longer and longer drives and it just runs better and better every time.. No fuel pump issues yet.

Thanks for including all of us on the real world experiences of this relatively new technology.
I know that AndyF, who has extensive high performance engine building experience, seems to be gravitating toward EFI.
If I weren't planning a stroker build at or beyond the 600 horsepower "limit" that Fitech claims for their 3x2 TBI EFI system, AND I had just invested $1,400 parts and labor with Promax to install their parts and do inspections, one diaphragm pump case screw repair, fuel lines, and dyno tune my 3 Holley 2bbl carbs just before I found out about the Fitech system, I would have already bought the Fitech.
Now I've seen some carburetor setups out power EFI, but in my case, the F&B 3x2 EFI direct port injection system will be a step up from the Promax modded Holley carbs, even if I get the maximum output from them on the 541 cu in stroker I am planning, if for no other reason than going from 1,350 CFM to up to 2,400 available from the F&B system.

So, I got on the Edelbrock ProFlo forum and it turns out they will gladly exchange your NEW injectors to another size for $100. The kit comes with 35's and that are good for 550 at 58psi. I'm closer to 575-600 since steping down the rocker ratio to 1.5 when I went to Comp Pro-Magnums for durability. I just sent them in yesterday and should have a set of 42's enroute shortly which will let me go to 625. There were 60's available that put the ceiling at 800, and I still have the option to go to them, but the duty cycle would likely be very low at idle and light cruise. I currently run 4 x 82's in my throttle body injection and it does fine.

Did you set up the MS2 for a wide band ? You were running it as a TBI system I assume?

Yeah, I'm still running it. I have it setup and running WBO2 with a 4-injector FAST throttle body. I could never get it to reliably compensate for weather and altitude. It would run good in the cool morining, but stupid rich in the afternoons, or sometimes go lean in the morning and good in the afternoon. A few times, it went lean in the afternoon. It was like the temperature compensation was whacked, or it was simply tuning the base map and not actually running real-time input based environmental factors on the base map. I've run silver state with it a few times and it held me at a nice 12.9 - 13.3 ratio, but other times it wanted to keep me in the 13.5 - 15.0's. Ran good and pistons looked great last time the heads were off, but I want something consistent.

So latest update... I need a rework.. I tried installing the hood and it won't close..

Can you cut out some of the reinforcement? Or is it scoop time or a bulge cut from another car? Or fiberglass?
Mike
I have a few more tricks to try, but not cutting steel hood.. There is a company in Chicago that makes a fiberglass bolt on hood.

I ordered a Dakota Digital Dash and BIM module to share Data with the Pro-Flo 4.

Did the stock hood not fit?
I have a stock flat hood from my Coronet 500 on my Convertible and it fits, but we did cut a hole for a six pack scoop when the engine had the RPM intake and Holly carb. Maybe just the center rib is hitting?
Edit: Just looked at the photo, looks like stock hood is hitting the front rib? My intake tube drops down further than in the front. That may be the difference?

Yeah my Accessory drive is in the way.. They are making the hood without that forward Rib, so I should be good.

Tell me more about the fiberglass hood!

520 for the hood and 35 to pack. I will let you know on weight.

The stock hood has to be over 100 lbs. I just put one on this car by myself....I needed the Wife though to hold it into position while I bolted it on.

Yeah, she is hefty.. I think shipping weight was 80, so hopefully sub 75's.. The lift off hood is cheaper and lighter.
