That must have been a great experience.
The best weekend of golf ever was a few years ago now...resulted in me winning my first and only ever Club Tournament. It was Easter about 1999...and a 4 day "Best two rounds of Stableford" ..and had a Club trophy attached. I started out on a handicap of 26, as I had only been a Sunday player for 2 years. On the Friday, I shot a massive score (for me) of 82, giving me 48 points, and cost me a few drinks. It was one of those days, I could do virtually nothing wrong (for my ability at that time). Saturday I returned a miserable 30 points - fatigue had set in from the previous day. nevermind, I was still the Clubhouse leader by miles...although some were creeping closer.
Sunday morning arrived, and I tried to concentrate....I had played well all day. One of the local jack-asses came up and started taunting me about my drop-off with the lousy 30 points the day before. My friends said nothing....he (Russell) asked how I was going while we were playing the 15th. I replied "27 points"
He laughed and said..."there goes the trophy"...to which I replied...."On the front 9!" My friends laughed loud.
I went on to shoot a 45 point round, and finish with a combined total of 93 points.....a Club record. Russell said Jack Schitt after that. End of year prize-giving rolls around, and low & behold...that trophy was missing from the cabinet. The previous recipient ( a South African guy) had left the club and kept the actual perpetual trophy. I was awarded a Fountain Pen set.

Been meaning to get myself a little miniature Cup to go with my prized Club Diary with my name in it.....one day.
BTW...my handicap plummeted as a result of that weekend. I finished up on a 20, and after a few more years, made it down to a 10, before children and increased absence from the club set in.
