'72 Satellite getting painted - what color orange??

up front are 245 60 15s on 15x7 wheels
rear are 275 60 15s on 15x8 wheels

I wouldnt do bigger than 245 up front, heard 255s will rub. In the rear, I think the 275s on the 8" rim fill out the wheel well perfectly, not sure if a 295 would fit without making some adjustments.

I run 3.55s as well but I am jealous of your 4 speed, the only thing I hate about my car is the 727.

That is a great looking car! Thanks for the info on the decals, I found that webpage so I'll have order a set! Also, what size rims and rear tires are you running? I have currently have the cop wheels with 245 60 15, I think those wheels are 15x7. What thinking going 15x8 on the rear and maybe a little wider tire also?

Getting the 8 3/4" rear ready to go, will be running a 3.55 suregrip with a 400 4speed. Should be fun!

She's a beauty! Nice work. What part of N. Idaho are you, I'm originally from Bonners Ferry?

I was going to ask what part of Idaho, too...We could use more Mopar bodies at our Hot August nights in Lewiston-not too many here!

Never have too many Orange mopars. It just great color.
I thought the same way and painted mine silver to be different, and wish I would have went with Hemi Orange or top Banana.

Thanks for the help and info!

I am in Sandpoint, ID and there aren't many mopars driving around here either! I've met a few guys from Lewiston when I lived there a few years ago, so am planning to get down there for the Aug show and hopefully be done by then!

I get down to Boise once in a while actually since my wife's parents are from there, will have to drop a line when we're heading down and chat mopar!

Crazymopar, ya, I recognized where your posted pic of your in violet car was in Clarkston at the boat ramp! Pretty cool!

ALso have a brake questions!!! Will be running a 8 3/4" rear from a '71 up bbody, which has 10" drums. I would like to run 11" but where on earth would you find a 11" brake setup? Ican get everything new except for the 11" backing plates I think. I see the 9 1/4" rears with 11" only have 4bolts holding on the backing plate where the 8 3/4"rears have 5 bolts! I was thinking maybe a '74 older pickup since they have 8 3/4" rears on the half tons? If not, will just go with the 10" combo! Ideas?

Thanks again for the help!

Hi there,
I am no expert but I am happy to help with what I know. You said you are running a 1971 8/34 so I am assuming it is small bolt pattern, are you going to swap axles and go 73 and up larger pattern? I am not positive but I think the truck parts you are looking at are all the larger lug pattern and you would need to swap axles as well and those you would have to buy new or cut down and resplined.
You can ask your parts store for help by having them pull a axle bearing for the truck and check check it's OD against what you have now as the backing plate is what retains the stock tappered wheel bearings and must be the same size (i believe they are). Alot of guys convert to the "green" bearing design, I am not a big fan of these roller type bearing as they are not designed for long time street use side loading but they do work.
There are some positives to the 10 inch brakes, first off you have them! lol, also less weight (the unsprung kind) is always good and the front brakes do most of the work anyway.
I wish you and your project the best!
Jeff

Thanks for the info!

Actually all I would use on the truck axle would be the rear backing plate if it was 11" and use my 71 axles (5 x 4.5"), and then buy all new 11" drums etc. for the small bolt pattern. (Ya you are right, the trucks up till '74 used the 5x 5.5", then they went back to 5x 4.5"). I think it's gonna be a hassle and timeconsuming to find a 11" backing plate, so I may as well just go 10", ya those 11" drums are kinda heavy! Got it all cleaned up for paint, will replace axle seals and start assembling brakes!

Flywheels..

So will be running a 400 4bbl 4speed. I have a 11" steel bellhousing for the A833.

The 400 is a 6bolt cast crank.

Will a 383 flywheel work? Or a 440 cast crank one? Making sure I have everything I need when putting the engine in!

Thank you!

great looking car !! nice job ur doing !! I used the 11in bellhouseing flywheel and 4 speed out of 69 rr 383 in my 71 .. worked great but had to have the flywheel balanced cuz my 1973 440 was ext bal cast crank. and 383 was int bal steel crank

okay, I think that's what I'll do is get the 383 (flywheel *edit*) drilled for the 400 external balanced engine.

Soo.. with the 69 RR trans, I am assuming you ran the non console 71 shifter setup? I will be running a '70 a844 4speed which has the bosses for the rear shifter mount (which is what I want to run right?) since I will be running a console, which I'll have to get bosses drilled also. I have a feeling the shifter linkage that comes with the new Hurst Comp Plus shifter is not gonna be for the rear mount pad but is for the the front mount.. Great..

Thoughts?

That's my favorite color combo (orange with a little black) "never overdone". I really like the RR's with just the hood stripe "sweet" no roof stripe. Can't wait to see it.

I think you ment get the flywheel drilled "balanced" ya 69 trans only had forward shift location so I went with the 6inch set back for bench, buddy seat location, the trany mount on 69 was a flat mount and my 71 had spool mount on trany didn't line up so we we turned it around and it bolted right..
up backwards .. lol what luck.. for your council u will use the rear shifting location on ur trany.. if your new shifter is for the front location you for sure need difrent linkage .. maybe different shifter to hope someone else can chime in who knows more on the rear location mounting
your trany has both front and rear spots to mount shifter ?

Thanks for the info. I will either get the 383 flywheel drilled for the correct balance or I found out from a friend that a 360 truck flywheel is also 11", which I might have some luck finding actually!

Ya, I am pretty sure that linkage I have is for the front mount, which won't work for me. I think the shifter is the same, but I could be wrong too. Ireally hope not!

My trans has the mounts for both spots, I think the '70 up they did that..

I have a '69 one also, which just has the front mount I think..

More fun!

-J

its only like 30 or 35 bucks to have the flywheel balanced

I''ll have to put Lewiston on the August calendar, hope to see both you and Crzybird!

'72 Satellite Project

Kinda tough to move a dismantelled car and parts and pieces this year to our new place!

Finally got settled in to a little garage but should be enough to get the Plymouth back together!

Check out the move!
