Robo telemarketer calls

I haven't had a landline in 15 years. On my smartphone, if I get a caller that doesn't leave a message and I don't recognize the number, I add it to my auto-reject list. In my opinion, that's the only effective way to handle unwanted calls short of not having a phone.

I’ve got “Robokiller” on my cellphone, it works pretty good. The land line has an answering machine which we use to screen calls.

I really don’t know why anyone would be stupid enough to trust an unknown telemarketer that would alias the phone number they’re calling from - talk about a red flag for a scam!
How true! Your first interaction with me is to deceive me, yet you want me to trust your product, service or company? Yeah, right.

By the way, good thread Steve. I get tons of calls disguised as local South Jersey exchange numbers.

And now they are starting to assign names to them instead of coming in as "unavailable" to try to get you to pick up, but there is still no response when you do.

I get calls on my cell, calls at the shop, calls on the land line. Mostly I just ignore.. specially the one s w numbers very close to mine. Sometimes I pick up...... and say nothing... they hag up quick. Other times (and it will take guys in the "club" to get this... ) I answer ... Eddie??? Is that you Eddie?? Eddie is that you??? I can go on and on and on , and then laff my azz off!
Same here Biggs, .... Raheeb?......Raheeb?is that you?........they say "no Deeiiss is Mickey"......

I have nomorobo too and it stops at least 90% of the crap that comes in on my land line. Yeah, there's a couple of reasons why I keep it....

I do the same thing as Don does. Clipped my land line a few years ago and if I ever get a call on my cell that isn’t recognized and doesn’t leave a message I put that number on “block caller”. I get very few robo calls anymore. Life is much more peaceful without the phone ringing constantly all day and evening.

Nomorobo seems to miss a LOT of caller I.D.'s listed as "unavailable".

You can report numbers they missed to the Nomorobo site.

Couple of weeks ago I got three calls in the same day on my landline from myself, thats what showed up on the caller id anyway. Some scammer was saying they were Microsoft and my security had been breached, using my own number to call. Unbelievable. Would love to drop my landline but need it for my business.

That's happened to me too. I got a robo call from myself.

But the numbers seem to be random and bogus. Call them back and you'll get a message something to the effect that the number is no longer in use.

Phones have to go off at night. Only important incoming call is 911. All others can wait.
There is an uptick in calls here. Cell phones too. Central Florida grids being worked in neighborhoods per my folks.

Had to post this. Just got 25 calls from a guy in Jamaica trying to give me $21 million. Told him don't bother I heard it before. Him: no no no don't hang up very very important, me: click. Trying to block number his call backs kept kicking me out of call blocking. After 6 tries I got it blocked.

With number spoofing, the overseas ones appear as though they are calling from the same area code.

I let unknown numbers go to VM and block them later, but they autogenerate new ones all the time.

I've had my own number calling me. This guy was from Jamaica, JM with the number comes up on caller ID. Had dealing with them before, called one back once dumb, dumb, dumb. Cost me $5 for a 10 second call and wife reminds me once in awhile. I forgot JM was Jamaica, urg!

Lately I noticed that the caller I.D "Unavailable" is being replaced with bogus names in an attempt to get you to pick up. Yesterday I even got one from "McHenry County" (where I live) so I picked up, but as usual, no answer, no spam, no spammer, no recording, no con artist, just silence, WTF! What's the purpose of calling if you're not going to try to con me or sell me something? I called the number back and it was the McHenry Co. job program or something like that. I don't get it.
