Anybody have any idea how many 1966 Belvidere IIs were made with 999 code Petty Blue paint? I’ve seen a handful of them, just wondering how rare they are.

Hey guys, I stumbled across this thread while researching Petty Blue Belvederes a while back and finally decided to join the conversation. I have one of the few known to exist 1966 Petty Blue Belvedere II's with the 999 Paint code. My grandpa bought it new in 66 and and we have restored it over the past few years.

I'm sure we're all aware, but I don't see it posted-

999 code is for any non-model year factory offered optional paint.

In theory, you could take a fleet car that was ordered in safety yellow, forest service green, etc, paint it Petty blue, and no one would ever know.

Absolutely, that is one of the things I've read when it comes to the 999 code. I wonder if there's any way to prove that it was originally petty blue? I have a feeling getting in touch with someone at Chrysler and them actually being able to dig that deep would be a long shot.

...and colors were also expressed as percentages of sales figures.

Not sure how specific special order colors would fit into that.

I'd bet they could tell you what percentage were 999's but maybe not what 999 color it was.

I would think the blue paint in hard to fake in hard to reach places like under the package tray and frame rails and such .
