I am a young Moparian, and have contracted a high interest in engine fundamentals as a result of this.
Today, my thirst for knowledge revolves around camshaft design and how to define all of those numbers.
First of all, I understand advertised duration, valve lift, and a basic idea of @.50" lift duration, but here is what i don't quite understand.... Centerline: What is the significance of centerline, and is referring to the top dead center of a certain cam lobe? Valve overlap: Is this the overlapping of intake and exhaust valves?
Another question is, what is the significance of the @.050 duration? I have noticed that cams with lower advertised duration and higher valve lift typically have a higher @ .050 duration..
Please respond with any information, I greatly appreciate it!!
