I've never legally raced my GTX but there is a strip just north of here. I bought a helmet, installed better lap belts and mounted up some new MT Street E/T tires in 275/60R15. I think it's an 1/8 mile track. I already have a driveshaft loop installed, fire extinguisher inside. No idea as far as times but I'll post results.

Sweet car. I hope it hauls ***.

Thanks! It's still right at 100 degrees during the day. Once it is down to the low 90's I'm going to take the wife up with me.

As for the car, 440 bored .040 over, .008 quench, 10.2:1, stock stroke, Hughes STL3842 solid lifters cam, Hughes rockers, cnc ported Stealth heads, Sniper EFI on a Holley Street Dominator intake, 1 7/8" headers, dual exhaust, crossover.

727 trans rebuilt with billet servos, Transgo 2 shift kit, PTC 8 1/2" converter from John Cope, Alum driveshaft, 8 3/4 rear 3.55 Eaton Trutrac.

Sweet car... I was born in Artesia Ca. We called it Dairy Valley back then.

Ha! That's interesting as there are dairy farms here in Artesia, NM too!

sounds like a cool combo
as long as it stays slower than (don't remeber 1/8th mile rules break point)

(*11.50 or 12.50, or *150mp @ 1/4 mile maybe devide by 1.57)
snell rated helmet (should wear one anyway),
*rollbar min., *full harness, *fire-jacket etc.

maybe (?) not 100% sure on 1/8th mile anymore
*7.30 (95+mph) & 8.0 in the 1/8th mile IIRC
(don't quote me on that)
are where the different safety equipment levels starts to kick in
you're probably safe

IMO 3.55:1 gears may be the only hold back from
'doing really well'
on a N/A combo in the 1/8th mile, generally need more gear
make a good ET, make up a lot in the 1st 60'-330', where time is precious
maybe play with air pressures on the rear tires, may help hook too
somewhere between 14psi & 20psi, depending on tires & sidewall etc.

very respectable 1/8 mile #s, for a street/strip car
you may get as low as 10's (or high 9's) in the 1/8th, maybe better
it is a heavy car
I wouldn't do big long smokey burnouts,
Drag Radials In my experience
just seem to ball up & don't hook if they get 'too hot',
just get them to smoke 2nd or 3rd gear
(don't stay in 1st long)
& let off the brake, then roll out to dry area
"But" don't let it dead hook after the burnout
(caution it could be bad on the sprag/overrunning clutch,
not sure if you have a pinned or bolt in style
)

anyhow,
no matter what it runs, enjoy the time
good luck & have fun,
that's what it's all about

get someone to video it for you too
I'd love to see it...

Thanks! My wife can video from the bleachers. I had her with me in the car at the car show parade in April. The videos were terrible lol. I would light up the tires and she would get nervous and point the camera at the floorboards. She should do better in the stands. :)

I'm hoping to get into the 7's which would put it mid to low 12's in the 1/4. She runs great.

Looking around online it seems it is a 1/4 mile track. They don't have a website, only a facebook page.

sweet car! Have fun and post some results.

regarding the fire extinguisher; be aware that if you go through reasonably strict tech inspection, the extinguisher must be mounted with an NHRA legal mount, or they’ll make you remove it.

You could if it hooks decent

good luck, I have faith

I saw the track is a 1/4 mile now too
I hope it runs well into the 12's then
or better

very nice looking car.

Have fun. Going to the track is a blast, and you’ll learn a lot too. Shame so few muscle car owners go

I'm hooked on the track now . My current best time is 12.7 and with a lot less motor than you. I am running slicks though.

Those M/T should serve you well. I'm guessing low 12s

Dealing with one small issue, getting it to shift cleanly at WOT. I have an auto CRT valve body and 5600 governor and I think they are giving me too much pressure raising my shift point beyond my cams power band. So I'm going to swap in a stocker governor and see if it helps.

Is that in Canadian time or American time? Sometimes I kill myself!
