Thread 'Help - What did I damage? - I reversed the jumper cables on battery charger'

In short, I need a checklist of what to check first to recover from this bonehead move in 95F afternoon heat.
Brake light switch inop. Battery discharged. Lunch called.
Returned to see wisp of smoke from the firewall above brake master cylinder. Starter Solenoid?
