just wondering?

I've never paid for a dog in my life. Always had strays/"rescues".
Dogs mean different things to different people, I reckon...

Paid $500 for my akc husky back in 08. Still hanging in even with liver cancer.

Paid $550 for my Belgian Malinois back in 2014 out in SoCal from another service guy who had no idea what he was doing. Best money ever spent and I don't know if I will ever be able to get another dog after he passes. He is a very good boy.

Rescue at the Humane Society is $300
I plan to get my favorite breed this Spring, $500-3,500
May be my imagination, but there seems to be an explosion of designer dogs and prices. Started with Labradoodles and now they seem to be crossing anything with anything.
They want Breeder prices, but I doubt they screen for disease and plan litters for the best pups as do traditional breeders.
My first Belgian Sheepdog was a rescue. Have had nothing else since, even if I had to get a pup.

IMHO a dog is a dog, since I rescue stray dogs I prefferer the responsable adoption, to pay for a dog of certain appearance not my cup of tea, respect to all who buy, but too many stray puppies needs a home.

It's a shame you are on the wrong coast. I know someone who would gladly give up a Malinois puppy, especially to a Malinois owner who knows what he's getting in to. (Long story.... not me).

Kind of weird around here as well. $2500-$3000 seems common and a big deal seems to be crossbreeding and charging the same amount. We used to call those mongrels and picked them up for free. I agree on going to the SPCA and getting one there.

Wile E, I could swear yours was mine..... Mopar.

Mopar was a bargain, $400. The new long coat black and red shepherd puppy coming in a few weeks is $1500. I got a discount on him from a buddy.

Naw. $50 here at most....but most of the pups I've had up here on the ridge over the decades have
been those that asshole people threw out of the car on our remote country highway down below,
usually in the middle of the night.
Several of them have been obvious "pure breeds", too - bet the tossers paid a pretty penny for
them at one time.

They all make their way up here, usually because one of mine finds them and brings them up...
maybe because that's how they were brought here to begin with, I dunno.

We're down to one lone pup now because she's not allowed to go all the way down the ridge by
herself unless accompanied, but she's the queen for now for sure - and a pure Kairn Terrier,
chip and all that someone threw out because they're very headstrong and active critters by
nature.
You don't so much have to "train" them - you more like reach an understanding with them. :)

Pure hell to get to hold still for a pic, too....

Rescue “Beagle”. But only in the sense that Redtick/Walker coonhound has a little bit of beagle in it. That has very little effect on the over 50% Great Pyrenees.

He’s still a pup here, and he’s over 70 pounds now. That whole lemon beagle phase was way too short!

I been looking for a new pointing lab. Puppy is 1800-2500. Started dog is 4500-5000.
Not sure what I am going to do. I will still donate dog food to the shelter.
I figure I rescue enough cats!

I wanted an intimidator, I also wanted a puppy.......I have adopted dogs in the past, and will do so again if the situation is right

Rebel was a steal at 1200 5 years ago.......we are thinking about letting him be a daddy, and having a Rebel Jr around the house; but he eats about $250 a month and rising, and I'm not sure I want to double that number...... Big dogs are economic decisions well after you bring them home
