Can't find my tool at the moment and I'm trying to get up and running tomorrow.

What is the hex size of the oil pump priming tool?

Looking to see if I can whip something up that could work...

You have to pull the pump drive gear/shaft to use it, anyway. Pull it, and measure the hex end.
I made my own priming tool...hex stock, and heavy wall aluminum tubing.

Yeah it's midnight here, I probably will in the morning, but thought I'd ask so I can assess my plan of attack as soon as I get up. Eg call around, beg borrow steal, make, etc.

It's for a big block by the way but from part numbers I've looked at, they should be the same....

Made a priming tool with 3/8" steel line cut a hex wrench off and a piece of round stock and brazed it together. Cut the hex down by putting hex in a drill and used a bench grinder to cut it down to fit inside 3/8" tube.

I saw this last night before bed which is part of the reason I asked the size, turns out the hex shaft on the paint stirrer is 5/16! Perfect!

Saves me calling around looking to buy or borrow one.

See how it goes when I pull the distributor out.

LMAO, that's exactly where I got mine!
Local hardware store, about $7, half roll of electrical tape, $.39. Priming the new big block to 60 lbs - priceless
And I thought I was the only cheap one!!
Good show Chap!

I know this thread is old but what is the tape for? I haven't pulled my distributor yet but getting ready to.

That's why I used 3/8" tube post #5. I have a mopar performance hex priming tool. It's hardened hex stock, can nick bushing if your not careful.
