Getting on nearly a month now, and I have finally got my pictures ready

This event is an annual one down here in aid of a charity foundation started to honour a fellow staff member of the company I buy my electrical goods from. He was a much loved member of the team, and his passing was all too early, so every year J.A. Russell Ltd hold this poker Run event to raise funds...and every year it gets bigger.

Due to Covid and a host of other events, and weather, this years edition was initially cancelled....but due to a huge cry from the participants, it went ahead. A new date was arranged, and the initial maximum of 50 vehicles ballooned to 75 or so. I know a couple of guys couldn't be there due to last minutes breakages, but the ones who attended had a great time.

For those of you who don't know what a Poker Run is - you make several stops along the route, and at each stop, you do an activity and receive a playing card to make your 'hand'. Of course, I forgot about how serious some people get about this, and there was an obvious level of 'dodgy swaps' going on.....going by the results. My buddy 'Wanga' (Wayne) came along for the ride, and we thought we had a decent and honest hand....only to be placed down the list by some full houses with Aces & Kings.

Anyway....a full tank of gas....92 litres (smidge over 20 imperial gallons) and we were off. First ones to arrive by a long way, so I hit the Coffee cart first. Cars starting rolling (and sliding) in at quite a pace not long after. A great selection and variety of cars turned up - it was billed as a special interest car rally....so not many daily drivers showed up.

:xscuseless:

As you can see, we had a decent hand, but there were at least 4 hands better than ours. No dodgy dealings in our hand either.

One of the stops was to fire a pellet gun at the playing cards. Sadly for us, the kid in front of us jammed the pistol, so we had to resort to throwing darts for a card.

Another stop was to hit the cups on the table to score a card. I had a go after Wayne, and knocked over 5 cups with 8 balls. Yeah I know...no pics or it didn't happen....but its true. :D

The first stop we had was like crazy golf, hitting a golf ball along a length of plastic ducting, around a corner and up a small incline.
I got mine in second attempt, and Wayne got his also. It was a lot of fun.

Yeah.....now about those black marks on the carpark exit lane......

That was at a branch which normally is a rival in terms of sales volume to the branch I use. The guys at my branch were stoked that I tagged the other yard.
I probably have to return the favour at my local branch now. :D

Well Done! Good job supporting the cause.. Lotta nice cars, looks like a pretty strong turnout in the age of lockdowns... More proof the boys down under have criminal history in their DNA... I knew I liked Australia....

Thanks.....Australia.....close enough....

Here's my keepsake from the event. I also bought some merchandise. Shirts for the 10th annual and bucket hats & caps.

That's so cool Roger. I'd love to do something like that! Thanks for the pix!
Thanks Brian. It was a very big day, and after the run was done, we met up at the home of one of the senior management team. A huge lawn with plenty of room for all the cars, and a band laid on...plus 3 x food trucks and a beer tent.

I can honestly say it was an exhausting day at the wheel......unless you've driven (I know you have) an A100 for a day, it's hard to imagine. As my buddy Wayne said - "Lots of input there" :steering::D

Very grateful for the Vintage Air to keep us cooler on such a beautiful warm day.

Looks like a great event Roger with a lot of nice cars. Love that lime valiant.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. Looks like a good time. Your Red Wagon is too cool!
