Tips on lifting in rear diff

I made a adapter to use with my trans jack but, it would work with a floor jack.

When I was the OPs age I placed automatic transmissions on my stomach and bench pressed them up into place.
Yeah I would do that but there wasn’t enough room to fit it onto my chest under the car. The exhaust was against my forehead.

Thanks all for the help. I ended up getting it with an extra set of hands and lifting up both the front and rear some more.

I’ve had mine out 4 or 5 times using this platform that screws to the jack pad on my old Craftsman Jack. It has a square pad with 4 screws securing a rubber pad. I just remove the rubber and screw the wood pad to the steel portion. I position the case flange on the edge of the wood pad so it can snug right up against the axle housing.

I have always done this and then just slide it under the car on cardboard or similar and the just bench press it up and in.
But I was much younger when the last one was installed. Like 25 years ago.
Just bench pressing things into place isn't what it once was. Gravity has a much larger affect now.

On the ground, I position the 3rd member close to the rear end, then I lay on my back right under the car, feet towards the trans, head under the housing. Then I roll the 3rd member onto my chest and lift it up to the housing in one motion. Goes right in!

parts get heavier the older one gets, no matter what they weighed when one was younger............
