Would you paint your car a non-original color?

Some may find it sacrilege but some find it no big deal. For instance, we painted the '71 Challenger Sublime (1970) instead of Green Go. I thought Citron Yella (1971) would look good on the '70 Coronet. I don't want two Sublimes.

Then onto just whatever you like. I think that famous 1970 Road Runner, The Hammer, was some BMW shade of dark silver. The Mutant Bee is some custom mix of pearl green.

It all depends on what car it is and what original color it was. Personally, I don't blame you for ditching the Green Go. It's probably my least favorite color. I own 2 cars now that aren't original. My Swinger was B3 and it's now B5. B3 isn't as showy but it would look nice that color. My 64 was white with a gold interior. I'm glad someone before me painted it pewter with a black interior.

I would try to stick with the OEM color or try to buy a car in one of the colors I do like. But if you have a car with a color that you truly despise, than sure why not. It’s your car, do what you wish. Worst case, you just repaint again.

The GTX's fender tag says black, so black it is. For a clone or restomod I wouldn't hesitate to do a color change. But, a color change on a mostly stock, factory black GTX with a matching numbers engine would be a mistake IMHO.

For a custom, or semi-custom car, why not ? For an original/close-to-original/day-two car... no. Also, some cars look weird ( to me ) when a color unavailable for the year, or available on subsequent years is done. Example: a HIP color on a 69-earlier car, say plum crazy on a 68 car, citron yella on a 65 car, etc.

Thank you. The car has had 3 different engine/trans and wheels....but remains otherwise unchanged. We're gonna race it in the spring, since Krusty got hurt.

My road runner is coded for purple, which it was when I got it in 1977. It already had been repainted once. I had it painted metallic red within a few weeks....a deluxe $149 Spray King special. (Their economy paint job was $99).

But now it's back to purple again.

My current car is a 70 satellite that was B3 black vinyl top with a b5/b7 interior. I bought it in the late 90s. Now its ford elenor Grey with black interior. I tried several times to get B3 or 71 Winchester Grey mixed. But all failed. I did the elenor Grey with am amazon paint gun in my garage. Im happy with the results.
