Would you paint your car a non-original color?

In my mind it depends on the car. I would tend to leave 4bbl cars their original color. My Charger is T3, and I'm a big fan of it in part because it isn't common.

For a 318 or other 2bbl car, I could see a repaint in something more interesting than forest green or brown.

Helped my neighbor John go pic up a 69 charger original A1 car with a black vinyl top. Gonna need the usual full quarters trunk pand and extentions maybe some wheel wells. Floor looks good and its all there. Thinking he's taking it back to original.

I like seeing the original colors on our cars when restored, but if it's a custom build then whatever color it is doesn't really matter. If it was me and I was restoring a car to resemble stock and I just couldn't live with the stock color, I would probably paint it a color that I liked from the same year that the car is. My Charger is a bit unusual color combination. When we bought it in 1998 I was 15 and not a fan of the combo, but now that I'm restoring it I'm keeping it how it came. I'm sure that it's not everyone's cup of tea but I think it will be cool. Black body, green vinyl top and interior and white R/T stripe.

The reality is it's a big job to change paint colors on a mopar and do a good job. If you are going to change colors do a good job, paint everything.. and don't paint the engine compartment black! A lot of the aftermarket paints aren't a direct match anyway and if the fender tag is gone even less of a issue. I think its really neat to have car restored that were very sharp looking when they were new. But..honestly some were pretty homely when the they were new.

Different... I'm sure it was ordered that way, not a standard build.. But I wonder if it required a paint/trim waiver...
Had a buddy with a 70 Charger that was bright Yellow with a tan interior & a green top... Special ordered and require a waiver... Documented on the broadcast sheet...

Dealers don't like ordering something they'll have a tough time finding a buyer for..

I have considered changing the orange to something else.
The black and orange are Harley colors. But first there are other things to do. The paint is original, except where I have patched it. Left hand side. I painted the fibreglass roof with a brush. One of my rare painting successes.

My 66 Corvette was originally Nassau Blue but I was not a fan. Saw to many Nassau Blue cars repainted in lacquer in the 70s and 80s and then cut and buffed leaving a badly mottled finish due to the metallic it. I was a fan of the soft yellow Sunfire Yellow so when I restored it that’s what I painted it with in my garage, some 30+ years ago. It has a replacement Big Block so I had little hesitation on changing colors. If I was doing it again today, I might go back with the Nassau Blue.

This was an ordered car by the original owner. We bought it from the original owner's son's best friend. He said that he remembers his buddy's dad talking about how he had to special order the combo. I don't have any proof of that because the build sheet is gone, but based on what the guy told us and the fact that we've never seen another one in this combination, it would make sense.

Alright.. I'll ask...
what the heck do you have on your plate..
:popcorn2:

Depends on the car - I almost painted my Barracuda B5 until I realized it was EV2 with white interior and had to go back to that and glad I did, you can see the cowl side jambed in blue as a test spray. My `74 road runner was originally a pea green but I went with Green Go, my `69 Barracuda was burnt orange but I went a newer Chrysler color that was real close but had pearl in it. I bought my `70 road runner because I wanted an original FC7 car so it is obviously going back that color, my Duster drag car was a /6 dark green car but going Petty blue. I think for me on any real muscle car a color change detracts from it`s appeal and many times it`s value as well but on a base /6 or 318 modified car it doesn`t matter.

my car came from the factory black. When it came time to paint it, I did choose a color that was available on a 68 RT. I have never regretted or looked back on the decision to change it from the original color.

Back in my younger years I would paint a car a different color in a heart beat. There wasn’t nothing uglier than a faded F4 green car until I saw an unmolested low mileage F4 Superbee that was kept in a basement since new several years ago. That completely changed my mind on painting my car back to the original color or any other color for that matter rather its a clone, restomod or whatever but it’s your car, your choice.

Thank you for asking.
It is a personalized plate. it reads. TUKVAN.
This 77 Dodge camper van has been to Tuktoyaktuc, which is on the Arctic Ocean. Most often referred to as Tuk, due to the spelling.
Just looked at the pic I posted. It shows a garbage can or two in the back ground. Or, you have seen a pic of an earlier post showing the licence plate.

I started modifying my Charger right after i bought it in 1976
its never been a collector car or rare care
Just my street car

so color is no big deal

The car will go to my son when I am gone with one stipulation
That he continues to modify it and make it better and faster

No sir, what's on the dinner plate lol

I posted my B5 Swinger before that was originally B3. Ok fellas, original B3 or the present B5? I would be happy with the original color.

My niece asked me to paint one of my cars pink. Told her I would consider that on my 70 runner. Original F8 F8 interior. I really like FM3 and black interior. My other cars will stay as original colours. Have some time to decide.
