Yep....
I thought I played it smart. I had the door closed while I cut down the weeds close to my shop. As I got about 10 feet cleared from the shop, I opened the door so I could hear the radio while I worked. I turned to face away from the shop thinking that as long as I angled the head of the weed eater correctly, I'd be okay.
The weed eater is a 2 stroke and is pretty strong. The head turns counter clockwise so I have the right side toward the ground at an angle. This shoots all dirt, weeds and rocks away from me and doesn't fill my boots with dirt.
The surface is decomposed granite with road base gravel over the top. Yeah, there are a few nuts and bolts mixed in from hosing out the shop after various projects....

I had a bag of trim clips and a new AMD window set aside for the ugly car, Jigsaw. I already used most of the trim clips but had a few left over to use in Ginger.
I cleaned out the channel. There was some buffing compound from the many times that I have waxed and buffed the car...

I had to pull the rear seat and package tray to get all the glass out. Some chunks were even in the speakers.

No signs of any rust coming back but a few of the trim clips were spongy...so I replaced them.

The stock window is a bit thicker than the AMD window.

Murphy’s law at its finest ...

be thankful that’s all that happened & it wasn’t a nut or bolt spinning at 9grand dancing up the trunk or roof !

bytheway ...

Beautimus Car !!!

I got butyl tape in both 5/16" and 3/8".
I went with the 3/8" since this new glass is thinner.

Just like in 2001 when I put the original window back in after rust repair, I laid down the butyl tape then sealed it up with the urethane goo...

I refinished the package tray since it had faded a bit. I opened up the speaker holes too since the openings were too small, allowing the speaker body to rest against the steel. Maybe the speakers will sound better now?
I should be done tomorrow.

As always your on it... I use to be that motivated.. Gets allot harder as the years go by... I still like to do things but it sure isn't as easy as it use to be...

It sort of sucks when you cause yourself additional work and money. As previously stated, glad it didn't hit a body panel.

Damn! That's awful Greg! It's amazing to see you jump right in on it like that but I understand. That car is just too drop dead gorgeous to sit and wait for the window fairy to come around!

By the way, does that weedeater got a hemi in it???

Thank you.
Spring time is my favorite time. I have more motivation this time of year than any other.
I used to be a real animal...working on the cars for 12 hours at a time, barely stopping to eat. That is when I had Chevys that needed the work to keep running!

Thanks to you for the kind words.
If I didn't have this new window here, I would have had to wait. I was lucky. Now I have to get one for the other car.
Car show season is here and I'm tired of being a hermit. I want to drive this car. I had it at a car show on Saturday and it felt great to have it out on the road going somewhere. Freeway cruising at 80 mph is great! I never ran the car that fast before for any length of time. I had a 3.23 in it for one trip to Van Nuys. Other road trips I had a 3.91 and a .78 Gear Vendors but even then, the final drive was 3.05 to 1. This Tremec has that .64 overdrive so my final drive is 2.27. It is great to be able to keep up with all of the newer cars.

Holy crap!! Sorry about your misfortune Greg. Really glad that it was a relatively easy fix and didn't require paint and bodywork.

What a pisser, that kind of stuff ruins your day! Glad that's all that was needed.

damn!
i've been lucky in that case, since, i have been guilty of doing the same thing.
guess i will leave the overhead closed when whacking.

Moral of the story...

Don't try to listen to the radio in the garage and try to hear it over a weed eater.

Bummer!! easy fix but that still sucks ***. I'm guilty of the same thing, gotta have the doors open and stereo on when doing **** outside.
