Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

I didn’t see Memphis On the list, but I’ve been there IB. I personally have grown to not like a lot of folks... wife says I’m a crab monster. I just can’t stand stupid liberal folks wanting in my business.

Memphis was 3rd on a list I just saw as WORST crime cities in America.. Right after Detoilet and Chicago....

It is 90% of the reasons for us.
I'm tired of the high prices of everything.....which is a result of piss-poor government.
I'm tired of seeing unlimited homeless dirtbags setting up camps everywhere...the result of a piss poor government that tolerates it.
I'm tired of a heavily one sided government that does not represent me or my interests since I am not a criminal, gay, or from South America.

I think the majority of us know how you feel about about all of this lol. Thing is, this thread has remained in the GF because it didn't get 'too' political....and I hope it stays that way but there were many posts that went over the edge. I was doing good just to read through most of it and many times that's why a thread gets moved. It takes a lot of time to edit stuff and especially so when the thread gets long. Please leave the PF stuff for the PF. If someone is moving 'for political reasons' then that's all that needs to be said. Thanks. BTW, I wasn't in here looking for 'violators' lol but I'm also wanting to move from here and don't care to move into a location that sucks. About the only reason I want to move is to get away from hurricane alley and the nasty humidity.

Not sure where we are going next. Left western NY where I grew up to Los Angeles for 11 years then transferred back to NY but only stayed 11 months couldn't stand living there again. Then moved to Phoenix. Liked Phoenix for a long time but now it is just too crowded. My commute has incrementally lengthened from 30 minutes to well over an hour in the last few years. 36 miles of aggravation.
Looking for the next move and pretty sure I wont be working full time so a lot of options as long as there is an airport within 30-45 minutes.

For sure wont be in any of the medium to big cities.

This is the problem.... EVERYWHERE I drive now it is FULL of people.. It will be very hard to find a place that isn't in the boonies or has very cold winters where you will find less people.. AND lets not forget the tourists..

Went from Florida to Oregon and back last November... I still cannot believe how many people were on the road....

The wife and I are going to visit Georgia and Tennessee later this week. I’ve never been to either state. I’m anxious for the trip.
We are bringing maps and the computers to look up Zillow listings. Not looking to buy yet but want to put our eyes on what is available and get a feel for it all.

Everyone I have know who has moved out of state? Has moved back after about 5 years. A new setting rarely changes views and actions. We are who we are. Now there are exceptions to everything. But this does seem to be a repeated result. (Especially those who move to bigger settings. Like California, New York, Texas.)

Here in Minnesota, most leave on the premise that they are tired of the extreme seasons. But after a few years? That's exactly what they missed. Those who claim tired of social or tax policies move to somewhere less intrusive? Typically will find it too isolated and not culturally diverse enough for their interests.

So. We search for a land that has nice moderate weather. Low tax and government intervention. Rich cultural experience and entertainment options. 20 min from a mountain stream. 20 min from a sporting and downtown night life. 20 min from a race track. All with little to no traffic congestion? Well that's a high bar to achieve?

I think you will like Georgia. I have had good experience there. (And I have lived in Florida and Alabama.) It's different. And coming from a Northerner. Just my experience.

My neighbors place just sold to a couple from California. It is a 25 year old brick ranch style 2400 sq ft. On 10 acres for $210,000. Seems to be happening more and more around here. It's got to be the low taxes and conservative lifestyle.

At the beginning of April, we helped our daughter and her boyfriend move from Chicago to suburban Colorado. Due to the pandemic, they are able to keep their very well paying jobs and live anywhere working from home. They had just moved into an apartment on the 33rd floor of a really nice place in the downtown area of Chicago when the pandemic hit. Due to that and the riots, they never got to really enjoy the upside of that place. We're really glad they're out of there. I say it's like getting out of prison. The quality of life for them has soared. She did 5 years in Chicago and got out alive. And I don't have to drive down there anymore. I'd rather drive the 1000 miles to CO than the 3 hours to Chicago - except for MCACN, that is.

I personally just like the hills! They are beautiful and I enjoy rural life . Tennessee was number one on my retirement plan, but it got sped up due to Illinois being a welfare state that I’m paying for. The corruption ticks me off. I can’t write a check out of a empty bank account they shouldn’t either! Folks in Tennessee that I’ve met have been more friendly and relaxed. I’m sure that it’s no all that way but if I have a few acres to keep my distance and plant my garden and be self sufficient I’ll be happy. I love horseback riding and just enjoying being away. To each their own just make an educated not a spur of the moment decision. I’m still looking for the perfect job and place to live so it will be a bit but I’m slowly preparing. I have very old values and like to keep them..

Nowhere, and yes they were extremely happy. $400,000 around here gets you 5 acres a 2500 sq ft home on lake front.

We actually did have some nice visits there and did some fun things. But I think it's all changed, now. Too bad, because it was a nice place to visit for certain things (although I was always glad to get back home). For one, the air show is fantastic.

I live on 1.2 acres with a 1700 sq ft house. I built a shop out back at 1608 sq ft.
I hate the looming changes that are coming as well as the current crop of problems. I don't care about night clubs, the theater, art museums or other things you find readily in a big city. I'm on the edge of retirement so I don't really need to work, though I would love to resume building houses.
I already live in a semi-rural area. I want to take that further. I want to have enough land to bash around with the cars when I want, store and restore cars when I want and see people when I want. I live on a quiet dead end street but I'm not isolated.
I'd like to have the basic services nearby....Grocery store, gas station, veterinarian, Hospital, Police and fire....heck, I might even become a volunteer fireman.
