Your novel coronavirus stats as of this morning (figures from the CDC):
132,567 known cases worldwide
1,600 known cases in the USA
47 of the 50 states have confirmed cases plus DC
4,947 known deaths caused by the virus worldwide
41 known deaths caused by the virus in the USA
In my neck of the woods:
Tennessee has 18 known cases; Georgia, 32 with 1 known
death.
North Carolina has 15; Virginia has 18.

I repeat - 41 deaths in the USA to date nationwide.
As in a "festive" weekend in Chicago's crime-ridden southside, where they kill one another by the handful with great regularity.

By way of comparison, the influenza season has claimed an estimated 10,000 lives this winter, following up last winters' 30,000+. 19 million have had the flu this winter, with 180,000 cases requiring hospitalization.
That's regular ol' flu, y'all. The kind folks get shots to avoid usually.
Just like with the coronavirus, influenza is far and away most lethal to the sick and elderly, those poor folks with lowered immune systems.
Heck, the average age of those dying from it in the hotbed of Italy is 82. Yes, 82.

In the meantime, all we read and see on the MSM is all the closings and cancellations and runs on toilet paper(!) and hand sanitizer that goes along with the typical media hype irresponsibly working this into a frenzy.

People, I'm not saying this is not serious - it most definitely IS.
That being said, however, we already know how to combat it the best in our own daily lives, which just happens to be the exact same way you want to conduct yourself this time of
year anyways - wash your hands, keep 'em away from your face, avoid sick folks, wipe down your shopping cart at the WalMart with the provided sanitizing wipes - and stay the hell home if you're sick yourself (and that includes your dang kids, parents).
That sort of common sense stuff.

In the meantime, as usual, DON'T BUY INTO THE HYPE THE MEDIA SELLS YOU. For the love of God, stop hoarding freaking toilet paper and hand sanitizer like we're in a communist country with freaking bread lines or some such....
With some time and with the travel bans in place to parts of the world most likely to have more potential opportunities to bring more cases here, it'll work itself out soon enough.

PS: Remember H1N1 Swine flu back in 2009?
The CDC estimates that at least 43 million cases of that in the USA were confirmed (and they say that number could have actually been closer to 80 million) and we had between 8,900 and 18,000 people die from it.
Scary numbers for sure, right? Yet MSM reactions to it weren't anything like it is this time around, however - and you didn't see all the panicking you do this time, either as a result.

I'll give you three guesses why that was different - and the first two don't count.

I think part of the issue is the incubation period which is longer than the common cold/flu and the TTL without a host which is triple or longer 24-48 hours vs 9 days.

The media is not doing a good job communicating those things.

Wash hands, keep clear of crowds....stay calm.....Americans have guts, lets show it.

the usa is not handling this like other countries have.
they figured it would be best to Not panic the country,
which is how we ended up here when the virus has actually been out since november 2019..
americans are actually just now waking up to hey, this IS a pandemic.

as far as " official counts " thats all bs.
they are sending people home from the hospitals telling them they have the " flu " and to " self quarantine "
half my town has it..i have it..my family has it...
its the contagion of it thats scary...
some got it from church, some got it from stores others from handling money.
its everywheres.

i have no idea where i got it from, nor how long ive had it either.
needless to say,ive been isolated for a week and have at least 3 to go.....
gl to you all.
if you believe in God,please say a prayer for the others.

I hear you brother. A lot to do about nothing. Well it's not nothing but people need to think about it. It's getting like that even here in PEI Canada. I just think it's blown out of proportion. Regardless what some say. What I'm scared about is where will it stop. It's already costing people a lot of work and money. We all aren't Trudeaus wife.

The media doesn't do a good job of communicating anything except what they can blow out of proportion to make them look good!!:blah:

Well Italy won't even treat anyone over 60 now.. so Monty Pythons "Bring out your Dead" comes to mind. I closed our gate this morning and it'll stay that way for now. Stocked and ready for battle..

Do you have toilet paper?

Do the villagers know this?

Wayne, I'm just going to get a few 2-4's and sit back and watch a few Don Cherry reruns. lol

Increased by 2000 cases today and also 200 deaths. Interesting numbers in there. Started out slooooooowwww.
Then bam, 17000 cases and 1200 deaths.
82 or 2. It doesn’t matter to me. I know people both ages and I’m in the middle. This is serious. Yes the flu kills people. But those numbers are over months and years. These numbers are in days and weeks. Even if you don’t get sick the effects are already in your life. Supplies, lifestyle, hobbies and habits. No way around. At a minimum this will be a good practice run. Maybe we shouldn’t play it off like it’s nothing.

America will make it, China is screwed. As soon as we get this under control.....we need to pull as much from that ****-hole of a country as we can.

Stats are just that.....stats. The issue with the sample is reporting and testing. Italy got caught with its pants down and the elderly got hammered.....normally many elderly folks get a vaccination for the FLu ect...If you had a vaccination for COV-19 the cases would probably match the Flu. Remove the Flu vaccine and the numbers go up......also, many, many cases go unreported....thus this chart is alarming, but only has a faction of the information needed to make a real estimate.....

You are correct. It is likely far worse. The numbers from some countries will never be known. And there likely won’t be a shot for this for a long time. And I don’t do flu shots.
I stand by this being a good practice run. If people aren’t ready for a few weeks without food and supplies of other natures, they better start changing their ways!

Did that yesterday! LOL.. 3 cases of beer, 4 - 60's of Rum, 2 bottles of Baileys for the wife and she did the grocery run while I was supposedly getting drywall primer and everything else we need to finish our reno. Hot tub was delivered this morning and I closed the gate behind them when they left!

Dude....I got caught in the N1H1 out break here in Texas. I got it, my small...very vulnerable, kids got it....and the wife. We were sick as hell. You stay calm and don't hoard or expect the world to come to an end. As a Marine I see things a bit differently than some.....and my wife is a nurse who has vastly high risk than most here.....relax and be a good steward of the information you get......and realize that simple social proactive precautions greatly reduce the outcome on this mess. Italy, again, went along for weeks without tanking any precautions and we are seeing the results.

Dude, you’re missing my point. I’m not panicking. I don’t care what media tells you. My stores are empty! There is no supplies! Line up are out the door!
Be prepared. Remember the scout moto? That’s all I’m saying.

I got a bulk pack of commercial t.p. yesterday if I run out I'll just use the hose!
Grab them blue shop towels.....rip one in half so you dont plug the can.......but if you have a septic system I'd go full on slit trench!
